Big B reveals Deepika Padukone was paid more than him in ‘Piku’

Pikua-padukone/' title='Deepika Padukone' class='article_display_tag' data-id='deepika-padukone' id='article_tag_data_deepika-padukone' style='display: inline-block;'>Deepika Padukone who is ranked among the top ten Highest Paid Actresses of the World in the Forbes list 2016, was paid more than megastar Amitabh Bachchan when they worked together in ‘Piku’.

Big B himself confirmed this during an interview to Bollywood Life. He said, “I can tell you one thing, in ‘Piku’, Deepika Padukone was paid more than me and that says two things – one that she is obviously more important than me and two I have lost my price tag coz I have been working for so long. Maybe I am not so important.”

The legendary actor was promoting his upcoming film ‘Pink’ co-produced by Soojit Sircar who had helmed ‘Piku’. The director also confirmed the news and put forth his stand that since Deepika was the ‘hero’ of the movie, there was no harm in it. "But I think what’s the harm? If the woman’s character is that then it’s okay," Sircar said.

He also said that it is unfair to label a film as women-centric just because it has a woman playing string role. "Everybody asked me if it’s (Piku) is a woman-centric film. I said why? Because a woman has a stronger character that’s why it’s a woman centric film. But there are many films with only heroes but that is not man-centric film. So don’t see a film like because there’s a woman’s pic on the poster it’s a woman-centric film. It’s a cinema, a film a story. She maybe is the hero of the film and that’s how you should see it.”

‘Pink’ is basically about women empowerment and Amitabh Bachchan has been speaking on the topic publicly. He also supported the equal pay demand by the actresses in Bollywood. Recently, Big B also shared his open letter filled with wisdom, advice and life lessons to his grand daughters Aaradhya and Navya Naveli Nanda, in which he spoke about the challenges women face in the society and the possibly best ways to deal with them.

Directed by Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury and starring Taapsee Pannu among others, ‘Pink’ is slated to release on September 16.
