'Bhagwan, tera lakh, lakh shukr hai'
The gods are certainly smiling down on the Bachchans. First, Abhishek Bachchan took a trip to Vaishnodevi to pray for the success of Bunty Aur Babli.
After an impressive opening in Mumbai (collecting Rs 253 lakh in the first week), the film has become one of the biggest grossers so far this year (Rs 513.7 lakh). This is undoubtedly the biggest hit of Abhishek’s career.
As for father Amitabh, he is one of the busiest stars in Bollywood and except for Kaal, he has been part of all the biggest movies so far this year (Black, Waqt and Bunty Aur Babli).
So the Bachchan family undertaking a two-hour, bare-foot journey from their Juhu home Jalsa to the Siddhivinayak temple in Prabhadevi comes as no surprise. Sources say that the Bachchans are an exceptionally religious family, and are deeply rooted in Hinduism and its customs.
Says one source, “The Bachchans undertook the yatra for giving thanks. Many good things have happened for them lately, especially for Abhishek. Lady luck is finally smiling down on him on the professional front.”
Now that Abhishek is one of the hottest stars in the country and his career graph is scaling new heights, it seems the actor is ready to settle down. It is learnt that a few weeks ago, the star visited a guru in Badrinath, who told him he should opt for an arranged marriage with a girl not related to the film industry.
The Bachchans were joined on foot by Abhishek’s best friend Goldie Behl (who directed him in Bas Itna Sa Khwaab Hai) and Vrinda, the family’s personal trainer. Apart from that, there was a heavy security entourage and some personal friends who followed the Bachchans in a convoy of cars.
The Bachchans started the padayatra from Juhu at 1.45 am, and despite the drizzles and periodic showers, continued walking non-stop. They joined several hundred devotees, who walk bare-foot from their homes every Monday morning, and chanted “Ganpati bappa moriya” along with them.
They finally reached the temple in Prabhadevi at 4 am. After the initial darshan, they sat in one of the cars for an hour until the morning’s first aarti began.
The Bachchans attended the Pailee (the first aarti of the morning at 5 am) and accepted the ganaraya prasad from the pujaris. It is learnt that they prayed for the success of their forthcoming projects like Sarkar and Kaun Banega Crorepati 2, as well as Abhishek’s marriage.
