B'day special: Madhuri Dixit and her link-ups

Not only Madhuri Dixit is considered one of the best Bollywood actresses of her generation but of all time. Over the years her acting skills taken together with her dancing ability and stunning beauty has made her a true diva and a Bollywood icon. Although she is past her prime, she still has a big, passionate fan following.  She is happily married to Dr. Shriram Madhav Nene, a former US based cardiovascular surgeon for 15 years now.  But before tying the knot, she has had a number of high profile romances that were a source of great interest and gossip. Madhuri celebrates her 47th birthday on 15th May. Let us take trip down memory lane and learn about the romantic life of one of the most beautiful women to appear on the Indian screen.

Her first big link up was with Anil Kapoor. Together they starred in many hit films like- ‘Tezaab’, 'Ram Lakhan', ‘Beta’ and showed great chemistry on screen. Apparently they were quite close in real life as well. So close in fact that they actually shared the same personal secretary, Raskeh Nath.  Insiders claim that Madhuri avoided working with Amitabh Bachchan because he and Kapoor were supposed rivals. Madhuri has always denied the rumored relationship while years later Anil claimed that he planted the stories to get some attention.

While working in the film ‘Saajan’, Madhuri became close to Sanjay Dutt. However since Dutt was already married, her family did not want them to get too close. Dutt’s wife Richa was fighting with cancer at that time and Madhuri gave him mental support and company.  But there was no happy ending to the story. Dutt got arrested in a terrorism related case and their relationship ended.

The pairing of Shahrukh Khan and Madhuri in ‘Dil toh Pagal Hai’ created quite a sensation because of their sizzling romance on screen. Although some felt it was too good to be just acting nothing much was heard in the matter as Shahrukh is known to be devoted to his wife.

After the success of ‘Hum Aapke Hain Kaun’ Salman and Madhuri became a talking point. According to Madhuri what they share is a good friendship that is still intact today.

Madhuri acted with Aamir in the super hit film ‘Dil’. Fans and critics alike hailed the pairing. As is natural in the industry, many thought that it can kick start a romance in real life. But the star pair failed to recreate the same magic in other movies and soon the rumor mills stopped buzzing.
