Basu Chatterjee’s 'Baton Baton Mein' to be remade
Bollywood has remade a number of well known movies in the past. They include films in other regional languages as well as old Hindi films. The 1979 romantic comedy Baton baton mein is now all set to join this rank of remakes. The old movie won the hearts of the audience with amazing performances, quick dialogues and incomparable music. Now, producer Aditya Bhatia is interested in creating the same magic once again with a completely fresh cast and crew.
The original story revolved around an anglo Indian Christian woman, Rosy Pereira, who lived with her son, Tom and daughter, Nancy. Her son is obsessed with guitar while she tries to marry her daughter off to an eligible bachelor. Tom introduces Nancy to Tony Braganza and Rosy begins to plan for a wedding. However, though the two fall in love, Tony remains hesitant and cannot make up his mind about marriage. This leads to a number of problems which are at last solved satisfactorily. The lead roles were played by Amol Palekar and Tina Munim. In addition to super acting and a tight knit script, the film gifted super hit melodies.
Aditya Bhatia has recently produced the erotic thriller Nasha and he is interested in remaking this classic. "It`s true that I am remaking Mr. Basu`s cult film `Baton Baton Mein`. But right now I am waiting to choose the right director for the film. I am in talks with few directors. By the next weekend, I will finalise the director and the star cast," he confirmed. "The remake will have fresh faces and the film will go on floors by November 2013," added Bhatia.
“We have approached four leading directors and we are waiting to hear from them,” said the producer. Once the director is finalized, the rest of the details will be filled in. “We will announce the name of our director and cast together. It is too early to comment on it,” said he.
According to reports, Bhatia had approached the 83 year old director who has given his blessings to the project. "I spoke to him and he is very happy. He has given his best wishes for the remake. This is one of his best films and we`re proud to remake it. It will be a full-fledged remake," he said.Only time will tell whether the producer can do justice to the timeless classic.
