Asha Bhosle bows out of PM’s function in Delhi


Legendary singer Asha Bhosle who is mourning the loss of her son Hemant Bhosle, expresses her inability to perform at an event in New Delhi to be graced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The singer informed about this to the Prime Minister over social media.

"@narendramodi Pranam. Due to sudden tragic loss of my son Hemant, I have to bow out from your 2 Oct Delhi function. My sincere apologies," a bereaved Asha Bhosle wrote on micro-blogging site Twitter on Thursday.

The 82-year-old singer who is known for her versatility was supposed to perform at the ‘India Today Safaigiri Singathon’ on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. A host of other singers like Kailash Kher, Daler Mehndi, Sonu Nigam, Hans Raj Hans, Papon and Udit Narayan were also slated to perform at the event.

October 2 also marks the first anniversary of the Prime Minister’s ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ or ‘Clean India Campaign’.

Prime Minister Modi on his part expressed his condolences to the veteran singer. “Dear @ashabhosle Tai, pained on the unfortunate demise of your son. My thoughts are with you during this hour of grief,” read a posted on the official Twitter handle of the Prime Minister.

Asha Bhosle's 66-year-old son Hemant, a music composer, was suffering from cancer for some time. He passed away in Scotland on September 27 battling the disease.
