Anushka Sharma to play journalist in Sanjay Dutt’s biopic

Anushka Sharma roped in to play a journalist in Sanjay Dutt biopic starring Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role. A few days ago when Rajkumar Hirani approached the actress to play a cameo, she readily agreed. Hirani and Anushka shared a great professional relationship and she recently starred in his blockbuster film, ‘PK’.

Earlier, it was speculated that she will play his first wife Richa Sharma and or she will step into Maanayata’s role. However, it is now learnt that she will not be playing any of these roles but will  play a scribe biographer who chronicles Sanjay’s life in the film.

Ranbir kapoor, who has been roped in to essay Munnabhai’s character in the movie, has already started preparing for his role.

Sanjay Dutt himself is helping Ranbir in the process. The ‘Tamasha’ actor has been dropping by at the senior actor’s place occasionally and Sanjay sharing his life experiences with him over family dinners, a leading daily reported.

The ‘Tamasha’ actor will have to shed almost 10-20 kgs and grow his hair for the first, and then again beef up for the second schedule. "The first sequences to be shot are from the 1990s, when Sanjay acted in films like 'Thaanedar', 'Saajan', 'Gumrah', 'Khalnayak', 'Aatish', 'Safari' and 'Kartoos'. After that they will go back by a decade to the '80s, which will focus more on his personal life. There won't be any archival footage used though," the report quoted an inside source.

The biopic is a collaborative project between both Hirani and Sanjay Dutt’s production houses. The movie will showcase most of the aspects of Sanjay's life - from his meteoric rise to stardom to his downfall post his Arms controversy and his come-back. However, buzz is that it will not touch on any of the controversies, including drug abuse and jail terms. Rather, it will focus on his family and love.

The ‘Khalnayak’ actor will not be acting in the biopic, but he is most interested in the biopic. However, he hasn’t heard the script yet, but told the daily that he and the director will finalise the details before the film rolls. Hirani had also said that they would keep showing Sanjay Dutt the film as it progresses.
