Ankit Tiwari denies rape charges, says he is being framed
The romantic movie 'Aashiqui 2' had been a block blaster hit from Bollywood in the recent times. The beautiful melodious songs of the film contributed greatly towards its success as well. Remember the song 'Sunn Raha Hai Na Tu' from the movie? It was composed and sung by Amit Tiwari. He shot to fame with this number.
In a bizarre turn of events the musician Ankit is arrested by the Versova police on charges of rape. Even the musician’s elder brother, Ankur Tiwari was arrested too for threatening the rape victim. This Thursday morning police from Versova police station visited Ankur’s home and asked him and his brother to come down to the police station to record their statement. When they did, both were arrested. Ankit’s brother got bail but Ankit himself has to be in police custody up to 12th May.
Ankit’s girlfriend Nidhi Khanna is a 28 year old professional from advertising industry. She accused that the composer has repeatedly raped her on many occasions since July of 2013 under the false promise of getting married. Ankit has to say about the incident that, “I was seeing her for a year and I even got her to meet my parents. But when we found that she was a divorcee and she had a kid, my parents did not want me to continue with the relationship. I am being framed here. All the charges made by her are false and baseless.”
Neeraj Gupta who is the lawyer for the brothers, defended them by saying that it was nothing but a malicious attempt by the accuser to extort money from the music composer. The lawyer mentioned that the accuser wanted three crore rupees from Ankit as compensation. Gupta farther stated that, “If the victim’s story is true, why was she silent till now? When she learnt that Ankit has made it big, she demanded money from him. But when he refused to pay her, she filed a false complaint against my clients.”
Machidra Vadkhe, the police inspector commented on the case saying that, “The victim gave her complaint in writing in February to the ACP and the concerned DCP. On that basis, we registered an FIR in March and after verifying the evidence, we arrested him on Thursday.”
The statement issued by the Tiwari family on this incident read as, “…Ankit came to know that she was a divorcee and had a daughter aged 13 years. He was shocked and deeply hurt by this betrayal. Immediately, he asked that girl to end the relationship, but she started threatening him.”
