Amitabh, Shahrukh excited about FIFA World Cup
The 2014 edition of the FIFA Football World Cup, called by many as ‘the greatest show on earth’ has kicked off yesterday. This year the tournament is held in the football crazy nation of Brazil. While thousands will pack the stadiums, hundreds of millions of fans will watch from their homes. There is no shortage of soccer lovers in India despite the country’s poor standing in the football world. The fans in India are all ready to shout, cheer, smile and cry for their favorite teams and players just like they do for India in cricket. Even the Indian Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi has expressed his excitement on the occasion.
Our favorite Bollywood stars have also geared up to see some football action in the coming 32 days. Actor Riteish Deshmukh is more of a cricket fan but watches football because of his actor wife Genelia D’souza who is also expecting their first child. He said to the media, “My wife watches football and she keeps a track of every team and player…, this time I want to give her company in watching any match she wants to.” His ‘Humshakals’ co-star Ram Kapoor, is a football fanatic and is an avid Brazil supporter. He said, “I enjoy it (football), but I don’t get a chance to watch all the matches. I have always backed Brazil and this time the tournament is in Brazil. Hopefully, this time Brazil will win.”
Even Bollywood’s ‘cream of the crop’ like SRK and ‘Big B’ Amitabh Bachchan has expressed their excitement on Twitter before the start of the tournament yesterday. SRK said, “And on the most exciting note. I am completely over the moon with FIFA starting. TV glue ready!!!” Big B was equally ecstatic in his tweet, “FIFA pre nuptials on now on Sony Six .. what a fantastic run up.. glued, hued and spewed.. tonight is late night delight!! FIFA opening! Been glued to TV since long and shall see the first game too.. ! Me with Brazil ball !!”
Amitabh’s son Abhishek Bachcan is also a known soccer lover. Salman Khan who recently became the owner of a franchise in the proposed football league, ‘Indian Super League’, tweeted, “#WorldsCup dekhne ka kya plan hai?” John Abraham and Ranbir Kapoor are also passionate about football and have bought franchises in the ISL as well. John also appeared in a pre-match TV segment before the opening match between hosts Brazil and Croatia kicked-off.
