Amitabh Bachchan’s ‘Kaalia’ to be remade by filmmaker Rajat Rawail

Producer –director Rajat Rawail has bagged the right to remake Amitabh Bachchan’s movie ‘Kaalia’. He has reportedly paid 3 crores to Shemaroo Entertainment Ltd. for the movie rights.

Rawail’s last film ‘Ready’ with Salman Khan was a huge hit. Rajat also acknowledges that and says, “I'm indebted to Salman Bhai because whatever I'm today is after his association with my film, Ready.” However he hasn’t quite decided on the actor, he would like to play the role of Kaalia. Though Salman remains as the top option, the filmmaker is also thinking about Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar. Speaking about the movie Rawail said, “Once I have the director on board, we'll get a writing team in place to give the story a contemporary feel. Only after the script is ready, will I approach a top star and I hope that whoever I offer the film, agrees to act in it.”

A source close to the movie said, “In the time of remakes, ‘Kaalia’ was one of the few films which people wanted to remake. Incidentally Amitabh Bachchan remains the frontrunner among the actors whose films are being remade. Earlier too, his film ‘Sholay’, ‘Don’ and ‘Agneepath’ have been remade while ‘Zanzeer’ is right now under production. His other film ‘Saate Pe Saata’ is also to be remade soon."

Rajat is quite ecstatic about his new project and said, "In today's times, I see more potential for Kaalia as a brand than it had way back then. While it has hard-hitting lines — like 'Hum jahaan khade ho jaate hain, line vahin se shuru ho jaati hai’ - it also has fantastic music for an action film. You remember the songs of ‘Kaalia’, like ‘Jahaan Teri Yeh Nazar Hai’, ‘Jabse Tumko Dekha’, and ‘Tum Saath Ho Jab Apne’."

Some of the original work of ‘Kaalia’ is thought to be retained in the remake. Like the background score with ‘Kaalia’ echoing. Also some of the songs will also be intact, with a bit of remix.

Amitabh Bachchan’s films which have been remade recently tasted lot of success. While his movie ‘Sholay’ remade by Ram Gopal Varma sunk at the box office without any trace.

It seems filmmakers in Bollywood run out of story lines. Sajid Khan is making the remake of the movie Himmatwala with Ajay Devgn. The original Himmatwala had Sridevi and Jitender in the lead roles.  For the female lead actress Sajid has roped in actress Tammanah.
