Amitabh Bachchan’s 'Cheeni Kum' denied shooting permission

Tabuh-bachchan/' title='Amitabh Bachchan' class='article_display_tag' data-id='amitabh-bachchan' id='article_tag_data_amitabh-bachchan' style='display: inline-block;'>Amitabh Bachchan and Tabu are currently shooting for their new film together, titled Cheeni Kum. The cast and crew of the film were all set to shoot in a posh complex in Gurgaon situated on the outskirts of Delhi. The filming was to take place at the Malibu Town. However, after the entire cast arrived at the location, they were denied permission to shoot there and were turned away.
President of the Malibu Town Resident’s Welfare Association (RWA), Prabhakar Srivastav said, “It is a small incident, but the media is blowing it out of proportion because Bachchan was there. We have nothing against him. Shooting has been taking place here - this is not the first time. The only thing is that the producer of the film did not come through the proper channel.” Srivastav claims that the film people called him on the eve of the day prior to the shoot and told him that they would be coming to shoot the film the next morning. But Srivastav requested the producers to give him a day to call an emergency general body meeting for granting them the required permission as he could not solely take a decision. In spite of this the crew did not pay heed to his request and arrived at the location the next morning.

Prabhakar, however, says, “The MTEL is not authorized to grant permission for such issues and the film cast did not even have any written documentation by them.” He concludes by saying, “Anyone can come and shoot here, the only criterion being they should seek written permission from the RWA before coming.”

Amitabh Bachchan and Tabu had already finished their make up and were waiting to give the shot. Though the actors waited patiently in their make up vans they were kept waiting for hours on end. Producer Sunil Manchanda had taken permission from the Malibu Town Estate Ltd. (MTEL), the builders of the estate. But due to this incident he incurred huge amount of losses. Director of ‘Cheeni Kum’, Balakrishnan was completely annoyed when the cast was refused entry to shoot for their scene. Balakrishnan says, “There were some ego hassles between MTEL and RWA. Anyways after waiting for hours on end, we decided to shoot at another location and have now completed the Delhi schedule.” ‘Cheeni Kum’ is a love story with less sugar; the film is a sarcastic love story between Amitabh and Tabu. Bachchan sports a ponytail in the film and plays the character of a chef.
