Alia Bhatt makes singing debut with 'Highway'
One of the most promising films of 2014, ‘Highway’ has another surprise in store. That’s right! Alia Bhatt’s singing stint in one of the songs of the film. Alia Bhatt impressed critics and audiences alike with her acting talent in her debut film by Karan Johar, ‘Student of The Year’. Along with that, she is noted for her family and her fashion style. But, in ‘Highway’ has now unveiled a new side of Alia – the singer. The 20 year old actor has recorded a song, ‘Sooha Saha’ and lets us see what she has to say about her experience. ‘I am not a singer... I think I am a bathroom singer. When I was asked to sing I was excited and thought of trying it (singing) out. A R Rahman sir was very patient with me. If i fail as an actress, I will become a singer... When I was recording with Rahman sir, I messed up a few times but that is ok... it happens. I did not know anything about singing... I did not know how to sustain my breath, but later on, I learnt with the help of Rahman Sir.’
On probing more, it was found out that A R Rahman was sceptical at first about letting Alia sing. The track is a very soothing lullaby. According to Imtiaz Ali and A R Rahman, it was agreed that the song would touch more hearts if Alia sang a bit of the song herself. A R Rahman says, ‘We have this lullaby, Sooha Saha, in Highway... Imtiaz said Alia has a great voice and I didn’t trust him. Then she learnt the song and sang to me and I was pretty impressed with her natural ability too. We guided her a little bit to perfect the singing. She did it twice and then we got it almost right and now it sounds great.’
Alia, daughter of filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, could not control her excitement as she let the news out on Twitter. Her father was extremely enthusiastic in his comments about it on Twitter. One of the best comments was byKaran Johar as he proudly tweeted, lauding her, ‘My darling!! You sing so beautifully... chalo... I atleast have one singer on my side... (wink... wink)!!’ Alia Bhatt is very determined to cut her own niche in the industry and not be a just-another-star-kid.
