Akshay Kumar’s ‘Rustom’ mints Rs. 68.23 cr in four-day weekend
Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Rustom’ which is having a great run at the box-office, has earned Rs. 68.23 crore in the four-day Independence Day weekend. The film made Rs. 17.81 crore on it fourth day on Monday.
‘Rustom’ opened on 2317 screens on August 12 amidst huge hype and promotions and has became the fourth highest opening weekend grosser of 2016. The crime-film minted Rs. 14.11 crore on opening day on Friday and raked in another Rs 16.43 crore and Rs.19.88 crore on Saturday and Sunday respectively. The film was made on a budget of Rs. 50 crores.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the figures. “Rustom packs a SOLID PUNCH in its extended 4-day weekend... Emerges 2ND HIGHEST *opening weekend* grosser of 2016... Rustom is winning hearts, winning the BO as well... Fri 14.11 cr, Sat 16.43 cr, Sun 19.88 cr, Mon 17.81 cr. Total: ? 68.23 cr. India biz," he posted.
Akshay Kumar already has two of his films in this year’s list of highest grossers. His ‘Airlift’ is ranked second at Rs. 127.80 crore followed by ‘Housefull 3’ at Rs. 107.70 crore. Salman Khan’s ‘Sultan’ is the top grosser of 2016 so far with Rs. 300.45 crore.
‘Rustom’ also stars Ileana D’Cruz, Esha Gupta, Arjan Bajwa, Sachin Khedekar and Kumud Mishra among others. The movie was based on the true event of Naval Commander K.M. Nanavati who was tried in court for the murder of his wife’s lover. It was directed by Tinu Suresh Desai.
