Akshay Kumar reacts on Naseeruddin Shah’s remark on late Rajesh Khanna
Recently, veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah faced the ire of former actress Twinkle Khanna and her supporters and fans for his remarks about her father, the late Rajesh Khanna. Now Twinkle’s husband Akshay Kumar has reacted on the controversy.
During a press conference on Monday, Akshay was asked about his opinion regarding the ‘Ishqiya’ actor’s comments on his late father-in-law. The ‘Airlift’ actor refused to be drawn in into the controversy saying that the senior actor has apologised and the matter is over.
“It's ok. Everything is over now, he (Naseeruddin) apologised. Let's move on," Akshay was quoted as saying. He was not interested in stretching the matter and added, “Don’t try and get something out of me. Let this industry be together. We are all in peace. Don’t make it pieces. Everything is over. If he apologised, all should be gracious enough to let it go.”
Naseeruddin Shah had kicked up a row when he called India’s first superstar Rajesh Khanna a “poor actor” and held him responsible for bringing mediocrity to Hindi films in the 1970s.
"It was the 1970s when mediocrity came in Hindi films. That's when the actor called Rajesh Khanna joined the industry. For all his success, I think Mr. Khanna was a very limited actor. In fact, he was a poor actor. Intellectually, he wasn't the most alert person I have ever met. His taste ruled the industry,” the veteran actor had said in an interview to Hindustan Times some days back.
Twinkle was quick to come to the defence of her father and slammed Shah on Twitter by posting, “Sir if you can’t respect the living, respect the dead. Mediocrity is attacking a man who can’t respond.”
Filmmakers Karan Johar and Kunal Kohli had also agreed with the actress-turned columnist and entrepreneur. "I agree with you @mrsfunnybones... due respect to seniority but this was in exceptionally bad taste and not becoming of a fraternity member," tweeted KJo, while Kunal wrote, [email protected] the legend of Rajesh Khanna cannot be even mildly affected by the callous words of Naseer Saab.”
Shah later apologised for his remark saying, "I apologise to those who were personally offended, my intention was not to attack him (Rajesh Khanna)," India Today stated in a tweet.
Meanwhile, Akshay is gearing up for his upcoming film ‘Rustom’ which is scheduled to hit screens on August 12.
