Akshay Kumar makes TV debut

It seems that the stars of the big screen are getting more interested in the small screen these days. After Amitabh Bachchan, it is time for top Bollywood star Akshay Kumar to get involved in a TV fiction series. However, Akshay will not be a part of it as an actor but a producer.  The superstar will be producing a daily soap on Zee TV, entitled ‘Jamai Raja’.  Akshay and his associate Ashwini Yardi will be producing the daily soap under the banner of ‘Grazing Goats’, the production company is co-owned by them. Ashwini Yardi is a veteran of television industry having worked in the field. She formerly headed the entertainment channel Colors.  After resigning from that position she joined hands with Akshay Kumar to form this company.

Namit Sharma, Programming Head of Zee TV made a statement regarding the show. He said, “Viewers are used to seeing a daughter-in-law playing the ‘fixer’ as she is expected to adjust to new surroundings after marriage. Our new show ‘Jamai Raja’ breaks this stereotype where the husband attempts to repair the estranged relationship between his newly-married wife and his mother-in-law.”  Popular TV actor Ravi Dubey will be playing the lead role of Siddharth, who after marriage takes up the responsibility of fixing the damaged relationship between his wife and his mother-in-law.  Ravi is known for his lead role in the series ‘Saas Bina Sasural’. He has also appeared in several popular reality shows, ‘Master Chef India’, ‘Nach Baliye’ etc. He also has more than 40 ads under his belt. The rest of the cast will also feature several well known faces, Nia Sharma, Delnaz Paul, Achint Kaur, Apara Mehta and Shruti Ulfat. While the exact date of telecast is yet to be announced, the show is most likely to go on air from next month.

While noted Bollywood stars are not new to the world of television, they had mostly restricted themselves as host of reality shows, judges or participants. The mold was broken by Bollywood veteran Anil Kapoor who acted in and produced the show ‘24’. Now Big B is also acting and co-producing the show ‘Yudh’. It will be interesting to see after Akshay Kumar who else is ready to rock the small screen.  In the big screen world, Akshay Kumar is going through a good phase. After two flops, his film ‘Holiday’ became a super hit and now he is getting ready to entertain the audience with the film, ‘Its Entertainment’.
