Ill AK Hangal lying on cot, no money for medicine

Veteran actor AK Hangal who played versatile roles in more than 200 films is suffering from age related disease and unfortunately, his bank balance dried up and is left with no money for food and medicine. He is 95.

Hangal residing n Saraswati Mansion in Santacruz (East) with his 74-year-old son, Vijay, looks for financial help. Vijay who worked as a still photographer gave up his job due to severe back pain. The father and son make a medical bill of Rs. 15,000 per month and if they spend so much on medicine then they would be left with no food.

Life has become a burden for the duo. No one is coming forward to lend financial support to the family. Moved by the plight of the veteran actor, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena Cine Workers' Association chief Ameya Khopkar on Wednesday gave a cheque of Rs 51,000 to the duo.

"It is really sad how such a senior and great actor like Hangal is ignored by his own fraternity. Many of the stars have made billions, but are not sparing a thought or a penny for one of their distinguished fraternity members who worked in more than 200 movies in the past 50 years," Khopkar has been quoted saying.

Hangal started acting at the age of 50 and acted in more than 200 films like Sholay, Shaukeen, Bawarchi, Lagaan, Namak Haram, and many more. His bank balance has come to nil but his house is lined up with trophies and awards.
