Ajay, Kareena starrer ‘Singham 2’ ready to roll
After creating box office history with ‘ Chennai Express’, director Rohit Shetty is ready to roll with the sequel of his 2011 blockbuster, ‘Singham’. The sequel has been given the title ‘Singham Returns’. Ajay Devgan will reprise his role as the fearless police officer and Kareena Kapoor has been roped in to play the female lead. Filmmaker- actor Amol Gupte will be playing the antagonist. The shooting for the film is scheduled to begin around 15th of May while the tentative release date is 15th August 2014, on the nation’s Independence Day.
The movie will be shot in North Goa but this time around it will be done almost entirely indoors. According to a source close to the film’s production process, “Directed by Rohit Shetty, the sequel has 15 days shooting schedule in Goa starting from May 15. Most of the shoot is indoors… there is no shooting on beach… All the permissions are in place”. As per the reports the director has already booked a few streets for the shooting in places like Siolim village.
The music of ‘Singham’ generated lukewarm response; as a result Himesh Reshammiya has been brought in to create music for the sequel. He will be replacing the composer duo of Ajay and Atul. It is reported that Ajay Devgan himself recommended the name of Reshammiya to the director after being impressed with his music in his film ‘Son of Sardar’.
Ajay had worked with Shetty in all his films before ‘Chennai Express’ so when Shahrukh Khan was signed for it, there were rumors in the industry that Rohit and Ajay has had a fall out. But all those reports were proven false with the announcement of the new project. The actor is now busy working on his physique to get into perfect shape for the role.
‘Singham Returns’ is the sequel of ‘Singham’( meaning Lion), which is one of the very few films to earn more than 100 crore rupees at the box office. It was remade from the Tamil film of the same name. It had Ajay Devgan playing the role of Bajirao Singham, an honest police officer who takes on a powerful don. It received mixed to positive reviews from critics but even more praise from the audience who helped it to become a huge hit. It now remains to be seen whether the lion’s roar remains as strong as before.
