Ajay Devgan to produce a short film with a social message
Ajay Devgan has decided to take up the cause of making people all over India aware of the disastrous consequences of 26 July 2005. This was the day last year when the entire city of Mumbai and several other parts of the country were lashed with heavy rainfalls for two consecutive days. The effects were disastrous and led to the loss of thousands of lives and homes. Ajay has decided to produce a three minute short film to make people aware of the situation, so that they will begin to act in the right manner and do their part for society. The idea of making a short awareness film came to Ajay when this year again there were heavy rainfalls and Ajay along with some friends were relating their experiences on these days.
Faruque Kabir will be directing the three minute film which has been tentatively titled ‘The Awakening’. Ajay Devgan who will be a part of the film says “It is the responsibility of every citizen to look after their city and keep their streets clean. Yes the government has to do their part of the job, but it is also up to us to ensure that we don’t keep throwing plastic bags, paper and other litter on the streets which in turn clog up the drains. We can all help the government in our own little way.” The film will have a young child artiste Ajaan Ali Khan who is shown to have lost his parents during the 26 July 2005 floods in Mumbai. The boy who is then left distraught starts picking up garbage from the streets and putting it into a bag. Ajay then comes in and is seen interacting with the child. There is a clear message in the film which states that if a young child can learn from the disastrous event that occurred, we as adults too should learn to be more responsible.
Kumar Mangat and Ajay will be producing the three minute film which has a budget f Rs 15 lakhs. Producer Mangat says “We have already shot the film recently during the two days when there was a heavy downpour in Mumbai and only the dubbing remains to be done. There will be around 400 prints of the film released all over India on 14 July.” Ajay and Kumar are both conscientious citizens and want to do their bit for their country.
Ajay Devgan’s film Golmaal with Rohit Shetty will also be releasing on the same day, 14 July. The film is a comedy and also stars Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor and Sharman Joshi. Ajay was seen promoting his film Omkara at Cannes with Vivek Oberoi which is Vishal Bharadwaj’s adaptation of the Shakespeare play Othello . Ajay will also be seen playing a Rock musician in Raj Kumar Santoshi’s film ‘London Dreams’ along with Salman Khan.
