After bollywood beauties, Aishwarya and Preity dazzled at the Cannes, it’s now the turn of bollywood hunks Ajay Devgan and Vivek Oberoi to make an appearance at Cannes. Both Ajay and Vivek are there to promote their forthcoming film Omkara, which is an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Othello. On 20 March, a promotional event was held at Carlton Hotel on the beautiful Nikki beach at Cannes to promote Omkara. The event was held by Eros International’s Kishore Lulla, the international distributor of Omkara. Ajay Devgan, Vivek Oberoi, Kishore Lulla, director Vishal Bharadwaj and producer Kumar Mangat were present for the event and also launched a coffee table book on the making of Omkara.
Vivek Oberoi introduced the entire cast of Omkara at a press meet held on a ship ‘Five Angels’. On the film Omkara, Vivek stated “The adaptation of Shakespeare’s Othello is the best way to communicate to the cinema world that Indian filmdom means business.” Vivek Oberoi plays the role of Kesu (Cassio) in the film and he says “It is an absolute privilege to be a part, however small of this project. It is a film and a role that I am really proud of and it could not have happened without Vishal’s unique vision.”
Ajay Devgan was also a part of the promotion and launched the book at Cannes. He says “The book also talks on how the thought came to Vishal to make a film based on Othello.” Ajay was completely in awe of the Cannes festival and says “It was my first time at Cannes and the experience was amazing. Cannes has a great film market.” Later in the evening there was a party which saw the likes of many other Indian directors and producers who were there to lend support to the Omkara team, Karan Johar, Jagmohan Mundra, Gurinder Chadha and husband Paul Mayeda, veteran actress Poonam Dhillon, director Suneel Darshan, several heads of various channels and entertainment companies and Roland Emmerich, director of international film Independence Day.
At the party there was a six-minute show reel of Omkara which consisted of a few songs and sequences from the film. Ajay Devgan was seen wearing a formal black cashmere blend suit by Indian designer Anna Singh along with a Gucci belt and Ferragamo shoes. Vivek turned up in Indian attire wearing a black sherwani with leather detailing by Arjun Khanna, off-white jodhpurs and handmade jootis. Director Vishal stuck to a simple black suit.
