Aishwarya: Her Cannes fashion journey so far
Aishwarya Rai (Bachchan) is not only one of the most popular celebs in India but also has a considerable global recognition. She acted in ‘The Pink Panther 2’, one of the very few Indian actors to play a main role in a major mainstream Hollywood film. Aishwarya was the first Bollywood personality to make an appearance on the famous Oprah Winfrey show. She has also been making regular appearances at the highly prestigious Cannes film festival, becoming somewhat of an unofficial ambassador for India. She has managed an astounding 13 appearances at the Cannes. On some occasions she has looked stunning but on some she was criticized.
Aishwarya’s first appearance was way back in 2002. On that special occasion she wore a gold saree by Neeta Lulla and matched it with attractive gold jewelry.
In 2003 she was given the honor of becoming a jury member in Cannes, the first for an Indian actor. But on the fashion front it was disaster for her as the neon green saree, unattractive hairdo and jewelry failed to complement her pretty face.
2004 was the year Aishwarya wore her most criticized outfit till date. The reveling silver gown by Neeta Lulla simply did not look good on her.
At Cannes 2005 she really bounced back with two stunning outfits- an Armani printed dress and a black Gucci gown which was a head turner.
In 2006 she maintained her good fashion run and looked glamorous in a navy blue gown matched with a snake shaped neck piece.
In 2007 she got married to Abhishek Bachchan and appeared alongside her handsome husband at the Cannes. Both of them looked good with Aishwarya stunning all in a white gown and diamonds.
2008 was the year she flaunted her figure with three body hugging gowns. Out of the three the most acclaimed was an audacious fuchsia (purplish red) gown.
Her 2009 appearance is considered by many as her best. Over two days she was seen in a floor-sweeping Roberto Cavalli gown and a grey one-shoulder gown by Elie Saab.
By 2010 Lebanese designer Elie Saab has become one of her favorites and she wore a lavender mermaid styled gown. But for some it was the Sabyasachi sari worn with green sleeveless blouse that she looked best in.
Among her 2011 Cannes outfits the most talked about was perhaps the Elie Saab embroidered one shoulder gown.
Her 2012 Cannes appearance was very tough of her as she recently gave birth to a daughter. But she tackled her post pregnancy weight well and showcased outfits like an Elie Saab midnight blue dress and a grey gown.
In 2013 she grabbed attention in a Gucci gown and black and grey couture gown by Elie Saab.
