Aishwarya appeals pregnant women to go for HIV tests

Former beauty queen and Bollywood actress who turned mother last year appealed the pregnant women to shed inhibitions against HIV and undergo HIV/AIDS tests to prevent their children from being infected by this deadly disease.

The 39-year-old actress, who was recently appointed as the UNAIDS International Goodwill Ambassador said that she does not want to be a model only but will work at the grassroots level to break the social stigmas. Ash will tour various parts of the country to educate women on this serious issue.

Aishwarya said that pregnant women should shed the fear of HIV/AIDS test.

"Though there is no medicine for curing this disease, its medical treatment is possible," the actress said.

"I will help break social barriers and stigmas that are attached with the disease. I will help raise awareness on issues related to stopping new HIV infections in children and advocate for increased access to anti-retroviral treatment," she said.

When Aishwarya was asked about her future plans and return to films, she said that she is currently busy looking after her daughter Aaradhya who turned one on November 16th.
