After Ram-Leela, Ranveer, Deepika to star in ‘Bajirao Mastani’
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus, ‘Bajirao Mastani’, a historical love story, that has been delayed for the past 10 years, has finally found its Bajirao and Mastani. The on-screen hit pair and real life couple Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone will play Bajirao and Mastani, respectively.
A few days ago Ranveer Singh going bald for Bajirao’s role hit the news. At that time, Deepika was supposed to star in the upcoming Karan Johar film ‘Shuddhi’.
But finally Deepika Padukone has given her nod to Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Bajirao Mastani’ putting an end to all the speculations over the film’s cast.
Apart from Ranveer, Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Ajay Devgn were the strongest contenders for Bajirao’s role. And as for Mastani, Kareena Kapoor and Katrina Kaif were considered as well.
A source was quoted in the media saying, “Sanjay Leela Bhansali was keen on Deepika for Mastani’s part. But she couldn’t seem to accommodate the long schedules required for ‘Bajirao Mastani’, especially since she gave the nod to Karan Johar’s ‘Shuddhi’ which would take up nearly 150 shooting days.”
But later, Deepika was said to have informed the director that she would manage to fit in ‘Bajirao Mastani’ into her schedule.
Earlier reports said that the actress was going through a though time having to choose between Karan Johar’s ‘Shuddhi’ and Bhansali’s film, since both the films’ shooting schedule as well as the release dates clash.
After much consideration Deepika chose Mastani’s role, which would bring her back together with her ‘Goliyon ki Rasleela Ramleela’ team — Ranveer and Bhansali.
According to media reports, the actress made this choice because the Bhansali film also stars her rumoured boyfriend Ranveer Singh, which would give her more time to spend with him.
It is also reported that the actress has blocked a large chunk of her dates for Bhansali’s project, which is expected to be shot over a long period.
Reports say both Karan Johar and Sanjay Leela Bhansali have announced their films ‘Shuddhi’ and ‘Bajirao Mastani’, respectively for a December 2015 release. It is also known that both the scripts are great and would require quite a lot of time from the actors for shooting and marketing which may have prolonged Deepika to make her choice.
Deepika and Bhansali were unavailable for comments, but the cast of ‘Bajirao
Mastani’ is certainly a step forward for the director towards achieving his
