After 'Aarakshan', Deepika Padukone to act with Amitabh again
It was in 2011 when Deepika Padukone was seen playing the daughter of Amitabh Bachchan in the Prakash Jha-directed film, ‘Aarakshan’.
Over the years, Deepika has proven that she is more than just a pretty face. The year 2013 saw her emerge as Bollywood’s most promising female star, which saw her in four back-to-back Rs100-crore films.
Following that, it is only natural that a lot of rumours are afloat about her next film. She has been speculated to star in Salman Khan-starrer ‘Bade Bhaiyya’, Karan Johar’s ‘Shuddhi’ and also the next Aamir Khan film. But the first film Deepika signs this year may not be any of the above movies.
According to reports, Shoojit Sircar has approached Deepika for his next movie, called ‘Piku’, also starring Amitabh Bachchan and Irrfan Khan.
“Deepika has heard out the script and is impressed with it. Although she is yet to sign the film, in all likelihood, she is doing it,” a daily quoting an insider close to the actor said.
The insider also added, “Deepika’s part is very strong, and that’s what she is looking to take up at this stage of her career.”
The Shoojit Sircar film is said to be a character-driven father-daughter story.
Deepika was not available for comment, while Sircar was reportedly non-committal. “Nothing is confirmed right now. At the moment, my entire focus is on discussing the script with Mr Bachchan. After that, I will take the second step (of finalizing the actress). At the moment, I can only confirm that Mr Bachchan and Irrfan are part of my film officially,” he reportedly said.
Deepika is the daughter of badminton champion Prakash Padukone. She was born in Copenhagen, but grew up in Bangalore. She, as a teenager, played badminton at the national level, but soon left sports to become a fashion model. She, very soon, got offers to act in films and made her acting debut in 2006 in the Kannada film, ‘Aishwarya’. The actress was then seen playing double roles in her first Bollywood movie in the 2007 blockbuster, ‘Om Shanti Om’, and won a Filmfare Award for Best Female Debutante.
As a model, she made her debut in Lakme Fashion Week for designer Suneet Varma in 2005 and won ‘Model of the Year’ award at the Kingfisher Fashion Awards.
Besides acting in movies, Deepika
also participates in stage shows and writes columns for an Indian daily and is
a prominent celebrity endorser for brands and products.
