After 13 years, Saif to reunite with 'Dil Chahta Hai' team
The industry buzz is that Saif Ali Khan, who played one of the most adorable characters in Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar’s unforgettable movie, Dil Chahta Hai, will rejoin this dream team after more than a decade.
While Saif appeared in Farhan Akhtar’s National Film Award-winning, ‘Dil Chahta Hai’, co-starring Aamir Khan and Akshaye Khanna, the upcoming film is reported to be a solo project.
According to reports, the Nawab of Pataudi has signed up with his buddies where he will be seen in a role of a lover boy — one the lines he played in ‘Love Aaj Kal’ and ‘Cocktail’.
‘Dil Chahta Hai’ portrayed the routine life of affluent Indian youth. The movie was set in modern-day urban Mumbai and focused on the major transition in the lives of three young friends. Saif received critical acclaim for his role as Sameer in the film.
‘Dil Chahta Hai’ was a great commercial success and earned him praises and also served as a turning point in Saif’s career. And now that the actor is back with his friends, viewers would hope to see a bigger and better success.
In 1993, Saif won the Filmfare Best Male Debut Award for his role in ‘Aashiq Awara’. But his breakthrough role came in 1994 with ‘Yeh Dillagi’ co-starring Akshay Kumar and Kajol which was his first big hit movie.
He tasted success with a few multi-starrers such as ‘Main Khiladi Tu Anari’ in 1994), ‘Imtihaan’ in 1995, ‘Kachche Dhaage’ in 1999) and ‘Hum Saath-Saath Hain: We Stand United’ in 1999.
After this, the star had many box-office successes, with Nikhil Advani’s drama ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’ in 2003, with Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta. Saif’s performance was praised by critics and he won the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award among others.
The actor was also seen in such films as ‘Ek Hasina Thi’ and ‘Hum Tum.
In 2005, he was seen in Pradeep Sarkar’s ‘Parineeta’, an adaptation of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s 1914 Bengali novella by the same name. The film earned him critical acclaim for his portrayal of Shekhar Rai and he was nominated for Best Actor at a number of award ceremonies.
Saif ventured into film producing in 2009, when he set up his own production company, Illuminati Films, along with Dinesh Vijan. Its first release was the romantic comedy ‘Love Aaj Kal’ directed by Imtiaz Ali.
