Adi Godrej’s wife and philanthropist Parmeshwar Godrej dies


Parmeshwar Godrej, philanthropist, business woman, socialite and wife of Adi Godrej passed away in Mumbai at Breach Candy Hospital, on Monday night. She was suffering from lung disease for a long time and was undergoing treatment. He was 70.

Pakistani politician and former cricketer Imran Khan was the first one to express his condolence on Tuesday. Cricketer turned politician on expressing his condolence wrote that he was ‘devastated’ to hear of the death of the industrialist’s wife, who was his very good friend and had stood by him, in difficult times. In his tweet, he also wished strength for Adi Godrej and his children.

Imran Khan said, “Devastated by death of close friend, Parmeshwar Godrej, last night: she was always there for me in my most difficult times. May her husband Adhi and her children find strength to cope with this loss.”

Parmeshwar was also socially very active. She took active participation in spreading AIDS awareness in India. She launched the initiative with Hollywood actor Richard Gere in 2004. The effort also received support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Clinton Global Initiative.

Before getting married to Adi Godrej, Parmeshwar Godrej has also worked as an air hostess for Air India. She was famously known for her hat donning avatar.

In 2012, Parmeshwar Godrej also hosted party in honour of famous American host Oprah Winfrey, in her Juhu Villa which was attended by film fraternities and many dignitaries.

Former Minister of State with the Ministry of Information Technology and Communications, Milind Deora also expressed his condolences to Adi Godrej and family on Twitter.

She is survived by her husband Adi Godrej and three children Nisa Godrej, Pirojsha Adi Godrej and Tanya Dubash.
