Actor Mac Mohan passes away
Bollywood another brilliant actor Mac Mohan popularly known as Sambha of Sholay passes away on Monday evening at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital. He was battling with the dreaded disease cancer for a long time. He was 71.
He starred in more than 200 films. He was one of the popular faces of the 70’s and 80’s and acted with Amitabh Bachchan in about 16 films. His well known films include Sholay, Don and Shaan.
Mac Mohan started his career with Chetan Anand’s ‘Haqeeqat’. He was also the uncle of actress Raveena Tandon. Remembering Mac Mohan, director Ramesh Sippy said, "He was part of my two films, Sholay and Shaan. In Sholay, his character became so popular that he came to be known as "Sambha" after that. After the film was edited, Mac Mohan was left with only one dialogue, 'pachaas hazar', but he had no issues with it. He was happy to be part of the film."
Amitabh Bachchan expressed his grief in the following words, "I worked with him in several films, films that can be identified as being some of the most memorable in my repertoire. Some of the roles he did were evil in nature, quite the opposite of his own personal demeanour. His laughter was full throated and free ; a symbol of the free spirit he always depicted.
"He will be missed and remembered for many reasons, but perhaps the most for his reference in the film 'Sholay' as Samba, Amjad's, and the dreaded character he played of Gabbar Singh's, gang. Our prayers and condolences to his family and his near and dear".
He will be cremated today. Mac Mohan left behind his wife Mini and three children.
