Abhishek Bachchan likely to star in remake of Johny Mera Naam

Suniel Shetty is all set to venture into production and for his first venture in collaboration with Shabbir Boxwala; he will be producing the remake of an old hit film. Suniel has chosen to remake the hit film Johny Mera Naam which starred Dev Anand in the lead role. The film was earlier directed by Vijay Anand. However the script of the original film will be modified in order to incorporate the sensibilities of today’s times. Suniel Shetty is extremely excited about his project and has managed to rope in David Dhawan to direct the remake.
Suniel Shetty says that he chose to remake a classic Johny Mera Naam because “The film is not only entertaining but also portrays amazing human bonds which audiences today are interested in.” According to sources Shetty is trying to get Abhishek Bachchan to play the role earlier enacted by Dev Anand. Producer Shabbir claims “The script has been modified to today’s times and we are considering Abhishek.” However Suniel Shetty claims that he will not be seen acting in any of his own productions.

Rajiv Rai son of Gulshan Rai who made the original version of Johny Mera Naam however says “Remaking films is part of the climate in bollywood these days. One may attempt the relatively smaller classics but it all depends on how well one can supersede it.” Suniel Shetty has also been announcing his move to quit bollywood every few years as he has not been getting any good roles of late. So is getting into production Suniel’s first step towards quitting as an actor? Well that remains to be seen!

Suniel was recently seen in several comedies, Chup Chupke and Phir Hera Pheri. There were also rumours of his tiff with Akshay Kumar his co-star in Phir Hera Pheri. Currently Suniel is in the process of completing his pending assignments, Dharmesh Darshan’s Aap Ki Khatir and Bhagam Bhaag. He will also be seen in J.P Dutta’s Umrao Jaan and Santosh Sivan’s Apna Sapna Money Money. He will be seen doing a cameo role for an international project Don’t Stop Dreaming by Aditya Raj Kapoor.
