‘Aashiqui 2’ sweeps maximum awards at GiMA
‘Aashiqui 2’ stunned people as the movie walked away with six awards at the fourth Gionee Star Global Indian Music Academy Awards. The Aditya Roy Kapur – Shraddha Kapoor starring film made big news as it bagged awards including the categories of best film song (Tum hi Ho), best film album, best playback singer male (Arijit Singh) and best playback singer female (Shreya Ghoshal). Other winning categories for the film were Best engineer, film album (Eric Pillai), Best debut (Ankit Tiwari) and best film album (‘Aashiqui 2’).
Shreya Ghoshal said, ‘It’s very special when you win an award, it reminds you that there is so much work to do, so much more music to enthral audiences, I am very proud to be a part of this industry. Aashiqui 2 has definitely been the flavour of the year.’
Other star moments of the ceremony were when melody queen Asha Bhosle was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Honour in the popular category for outstanding contribution to the music industry. In the classical category, music maestro Ram Narayan was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Honour. Ram Narayan, the renowned sarangi exponent in the country is the man who made the instrument popular in every field of music. In the other categories, such as the non-film category, ‘Coke Studio @ MTV’ walked away with various awards for various episodes. Clinton Cerejo took away awards for best indie song (Madari featuring Vishal Dadlani and Sonu Kakkar) and best fusion album (Clinton Cerejo featuring Various artistes, Coke Studio @ MTV Season 2 Episode 1) and Wizcraft Honour for the Best Live Performer went to Raghu Dixit, of the band The Raghu Dixit Project.
In performances, one saw a glittering ensemble as there were stage performances and music stalwarts coming on stage to perform. Asha Bhosle sang a few RD Burman iconic numbers such as Mera naam shabnam, Dum Maaro Dum, Gulaabi chehra, Aa dekhe zara among other songs to pay tribute to the music legend. Singer Usha Uthup sang a number of songs in a special performance and Actress Sonakshi Sinha kept the crowd riveted through her performance. Other performances were by singers Honey Singh and Mika Singh.
The GiMA Awards is initiated by Wizcraft Internation held to commemorate the achievements in the music industry of the country. The fourth award ceremony was held on Monday evening with Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh hosting the awards.
