Aamir, Saif run with Olympic torch
In spite of the appeals from the Tibetan communities, Aamir Khan ran with the Olympic torch on Thursday in
Aamir Khan and Saif dressed in red and white tracksuit ran with Olympic flame bordered by a commando dressed in a red Delhi Police track suit and a Chinese torch marshal. The run was more or less peaceful with minor disruption here and there. Hundreds of Tibetans took out a parallel torch relay run from Raj Ghat, the samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi, to Jantar Mantar.
The attendance of the general public was low following tight security and fear of commotion. It was a 40-minutes event consisting of 70 torch bearers from Rajpath to India Gate C-Hexagon. 70 torch-bearers managed only a few paces and watched by 17,000 security personnel and a few media persons. Other than the film celebrities, tennis stars Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi, former hockey players Dhanraj Pillay and Zafar Iqbal, ex-cricketer Bishen Singh Bedi, and sprinter P T Usha, weightlifters K Malleswari, K Kunjurani ran in support of this great sporting event.
