Like Omkara which was a Shakespearean adaptation, Lajjo too is an Urdu literary work by Ismat Chugtai. Kareena confirms “I have just signed the contract for Mani Ratnam’s new film Lajjo. We will start shooting from January 2007. First Shakespeare in Omkara and now Ismat Chugtai’s love story Lajjo, I’m glad I’ve arrived at this new phase in my career so effortlessly.” This will be the second time that Kareena will be working with Mani Ratnam after their film Yuva together. Kareena claims that “Mani Ratnam is definitely one of the most special directors I’ve worked with. When he contacted me for Lajjo, I couldn’t believe my luck as this was exactly what I wanted to do after Omkara.”

Kareena is extremely excited to work with one of the most talented actors in the industry, Aamir Khan “It’s every actress’ dream to work with Aamir and I am happy to be cast opposite him.” Kareena has already begun to prepare for her role in Lajjo by reading Chugtai’s love story. Kareena claims “To work with Mani again and Aamir for the first time is like a double bonanza for me.”
Kareena will also be seen in a special appearance for a song in Farhan Akhtar’s remake of Don . She will be seen gyrating to the all time Helen hit number ‘Yeh Mera Dil’ and has an extremely glamorous look in the song. Shahrukh Khan will be seen opposite her in the song. Kareena was also slated to do Ramgopal’s film opposite Shahrukh Khan, but unfortunately that project didn’t work out. Mani Ratnam is presently wrapping up the shooting for his film Guru with Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai.
