“Where's the talent?” asks Karan Johar
We caught Karan Johar in an upbeat mood as we discuss his forthcoming glam-n-gylcerin offering, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna or KANK as he calls it fondly. “Well, we were to roll this June, because I intended to release it this year itself. But I don't see that happening. Now instead of June it will be September” Karan informs
So yet another sparkling starcast to boot, huh? “Shine, sparkle all of that are tags which the media attaches to my film. I personally work with people I am comfortable with” he tells us. “Coming to KANK, Dharma can't do without Shahrukh, so count him in. Besides him, Abhishek Bachchan, Preity Zinta and my favorite Rani Mukherjee are on too” he reveals. We were in conversation with the witty anchor about his obsession with certain block of actors. “Actually it is media that is obsessed about my choice” he quips. “I am free to work with any artist I fancy, right? The people that I work with are the best, so why would I want to look the other way. Besides, show me this abundant talent that people accuse me of ignoring!” Karan takes a dig at the paparazzi.
“Honestly, for the last 10 years, there have been 4 top actors and 3 top actresses at any given point of time. Bollywood has run dry of talent. And not just in the acting zone, I see a bankruptcy of talent in almost every sphere of film making in India. It's stressful but that's where we stand” he comments, arching his brow. “So it's always musical chairs with the actors. If Rani works with me this time around, Preity does the next film and 'X' OR 'Y' steps in the next time around. The Chopras and we are constantly trading, mixing-and-matching actors to put a film together. It now almost feels incestuous!” he chuckles.
