39 years after ‘Sholay’, Ramesh Sippy to direct Hema Malini

Filmmaker Ramesh Sippy has immortalized Hema Malini’s character named Basanti 39 years ago in blockbuster ‘Sholay’ and again he is set to direct the dream girl of Bollywood, Hema Malini in his forthcoming film, ‘Shimla Mirchi’. The film will go on floor in August.

The romantic saga will star ‘CityLights’ actor Rajkummar Rao while the leading lady is yet to be finalized.

"Ramesh Sippy's Sholay released 39 years back in 1975, when he created the character of Basanti with his favourite actress Hema Malini.

"Ramesh Sippy is going to work with Hema Malini after Sholay in Shimla Mirchi and like his other films, the first letter of his next film is also with the letter 'S'," a release said.

Ramesh Sippy last directed movie is ‘Zamaana Deewana’ in 1995. The film starred Raveena Tandon and Shahrukh Khan in the lead roles.

Ramesh Sippy always wanted to direct Hema Malini and he is happy to have his Basanti in ‘Shimla Mirchi’. The duo have worked in superhits movies like ‘Andaz’, ‘Seeta Aur Geeta’ and ‘Sholay’.
