The trailer of upcoming film ‘31st October’ starring Vir Das and Soha Ali Khan is out. The film is based on true events and is touted to be Bollywood’s first attempt to focus on the aftermath of late prime minister Indira Gandhi's assassination on October 31, 1984.
The movie revolves around the plight of a Sikh family trapped in the communal riots and mob violence that took place after Indira Gandhi was assassinated by her Sikh bodyguard.
The two-minute-long trailer opens with Vir, who plays a Sikh man, asking for help to save his family comprising his wife essayed by Soha, and their two children. But nobody wants to risk their lives for others. As the mob goes on a rampage seeking out Sikh people everywhere and killing them, there is no room for humanity. Irate people are burning down houses and vehicles and running about wielding sticks and weapons. Political activists are seen giving inflammatory speeches to avenge the death of the prime minister.
The political thriller has been written and produced by Harry Sachdeva and directed by National Award winning filmmaker Shivaji Lotan Patil with assistance of Amol Kagne. The movie raises pertinent questions like is it justified to make everyone suffer for the wrong doings of a few? Was every Sikh person a murderer of Indira Gandhi and a traitor? How are the wrongs done in the name of religion and communalism justified?
The movie is set to hit the theatres on October 7.
