2000 applicants turn up in Kolkata for 'Just Dance' audition
From big screen to the small screen is what the heartthrob of Bollywood, Hrithik Roshan, has stepped ‘down’ to. He is now to make his debut in hosting the reality show ‘Just Dance’, a dance show which is said to be the biggest ever on Indian television.
‘Just Dance’ will bring on the television not only Indian dancers but also those from the USA and England to give a global performance.
It recently opened its gates to the first audition in India at the Swabhumi, the Heritage Plaza in Kankurgachi, Kolkota.
About 2000 contestants had already registered themselves for the audition through the website of Star Plus TV and were present when ‘Just Dance’ opened itself to welcome them. But when the gates were opened, there were not only those already registered but about 1500-2000 more unregistered contestants were present for their audition at the venue. They stood there from six o’clock in the morning, waiting patiently for the gates to open. The enthusiastic lot arrived with a hope of being selected to display their talents and get in the spotlight at international level.
Star Plus TV personnel were not prepared to welcome such an unexpectedly huge crowd. This was confessed by Monica Shergil, the senior creative director of the Star Plus TV channel. They arranged for some shelter for them since the heat of the city is unbearable but that really did not suffice for such a big gathering.
All the contestants were welcomed, both the pre-registered and the unregistered. Each one of them will be auditioned and the best of the lot will have the privilege to showcase their talents before the only iconinc face behind the program, Hrithik Roshan. There are other famous choreographers of Bollywood included in the panel of judges namely Farah Khan and Vaibhavi Merchant.
Similar auditions were done earlier this year, in February, in the United States of America and the United Kingdom. The finalists selected from these auditions are to come to India and represent their respective countries in the great ‘Just Dance’ program.
There is so much talk and excitement about this forthcoming program both in the country and overseas. The TV viewers as well as the participants are enthusiastically waiting for ‘Just Dance’ to begin.
The nimble-footer, Hrithik Roshan is one of the best dancers of Bollywood. He has frequently shown his talent on the silver screen through his films; even certain TV advertisements in which he danced could not prevent his outstanding talent from being noticed. He has worked earlier with Shiamak Davar, a choreographer, to teach the children of Mumbai slums how to dance. He is to further show his inborn talent of dancing through his upcoming film, Kites, in which he has taken the role of a dance instructor. Hrithik asked the world-famous choreographer, Flexi to help him with some new steps for the dances in the film but Flexi failed miserably to satisfy Hrithik’s desire to put his best foot forward with new, unique dancing steps in the film.
