Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani

The eagerly awaited music of  Yeh Jawaani hai Deewani is out and the nine numbers in the playlist are already making quite a mark in the industry. You must have already heard Badtameez dil. The music of the film is by Pritam Chakraborty and the lyrics are by Amitabha Bhattacharya. They have perfectly captured the swinging and breathless feel of the rom-com though nice melodious and regional touches have been provided by a sufi style number and a beautiful Holi song.

The first number in the list is Badtameez dil sung by Benny Dayal and Shefali Alvariz. The tune is breathless, fast and extremely groovy as rather crazy lyrics have been joined together to create a truly fast dance number. You cannot help but groove to it.

This is followed by a Holi song – a feature that has not been seen in the Hindi films of recent years. Balam Pichkari is sung by Vishal Dadlani and Shalmali Kholgade. Powerful and energetic, it successfully converts a Holi song to a party number. The naughty lyrics are an added bonus.

The third track is Dilwali Girlfriend, styled on a Bhangra pop number. Sung by Arijit Singh and Sunidhi Chauhan, the tune is catchy and the beat is fast, but the song cannot hold its own against the first two.

Rekha Bhardwaj sings in her typical voice to a tableaux of harmonium and the table in the acknowledged Tamasha style with Vishal Dadlani in the next song Ghaghra. Sung in the tradition of Kajra re, the song will be picturized on the first ever item number being done by Madhuri Dixit opposite Ranbir Kapoor. It is a dance number with whistles and sounds of Ghungroo.

Can a film by Ranbir Kapoor and an album by Pritam be complete without a song by Mohit Chauhan? He sings Ilahi where he has given a flavor of live performance. You will love this slightly offbeat number which is definitely different from the rest of the tracks.

Kabira is a Sufi style composition which has been sung beautifully by Rekha Bhardwaj and Tochi Raina. It is a short philosophical track, but you should not miss its haunting melody.

Sreeram – the winner of Indian Idol has sung the ultimate romantic song in the movie, Subhanallah. He is aided by Shilpa Rao. It is a crooning falling-in-love number that is bound to appeal to the romantic in you.
