Woh Tera Naam Tha - Music Review

A musical love triangle set in early 50's. 'Woh Tera Naam Tha' is an intriguing tale of love and passion well knit by director Kuku Kohli. The film is stuffed with promising newcomers. The star cast of the film includes Amrish Puri, Arjan Bajwa, Gaurav Channa, Kanchi Kaul, Shalini Pal, Rajat Bedi, Rajiv Verma and Yunus Pervez. The film is made under the banner of Radha Krshna Films. Vijay Pat Singhania is producer of the film. Roop Kumar Rathod, Dilip Sen-Sameer Sen and Sumeet Chopra have composed the music.

Original soundtracks of the film are on SaReGaMa. Qateel Shifai, Shahid Hamdani, Shakeel Azmi, Nida Fazli and Rani Malik render lyrics. The title song is the best song of the album, which is beautifully sung and composed by Roop Kumar Rathod. The album has ten soundtracks. The film revolves around Ustad Samad Khan (Amrish Puri), a Hindustani musical maestro and his daughter Reshma (Kanchi Kaul). Badrudin Tangewala (Gaurav Channa) is Reshma's childhood friend and secretly nurses his love for her. Whereas Reshma falls in love with Delhi photojournalist (Arjan Bajwa), while Naseem (Shalini Pal), another bubbly neighborhood girl loves Badrudin. The line up of composers and lyricist renders musical work for this engrossing love story.

The album opens up with the title song of the film "Woh Tera Naam Tha" sung melodiously by singer and composer Roop Kumar Rathod. This is undoubtedly the best song of the film. Qateel Shifai's lyrics are meaningful and penetrative. Roop Kumar Rathod's sentimental voice sprinkles romance in the air.

"Sajan Ghar Chali Re" is a marriage song sung in tandem by Alka Yagnik and Richa Sharma. The chirpy voice of Alka Yagnik enchants and creates magic. Richa Sharma's voice gives it a folk touch. Shahid Hamdani's ceremonial lyrics are bubbly and boisterous.

"Subah Hui" is a soft sentimental solo by Alka Yagnik. The sweet melodious voice of Alka Yagnik epitomizes the freshness of early morning. The lyrics of the song are by Shakeel Azmi, which are pleasant and soothing.

"Jaan Lo Jaan Lo" is a qawwali song sung by Sabri Brothers and Sadhna Sargam. The music of Roop Kumar Rathod is appreciable. Lyrics of Nida Fazli have a blend of Urdu couplets.

The sentimental touch of a lover's heart can be felt in "Noor-e-Nazar. A sentimental composition by Roop Kumar Rathod is heart warming. The soulful voice of Roop Kumar touches the heart. The emotional lyrics of Shakeel Azmi are beautiful.

"Aashqan Dil" is a tragically emotional song sung brilliantly by renowned Pakistani singer. This song reminds of "Bichde Abhi" from Subhash Ghai's "Hero". The tragically lyrics are given by Rani Malik.

"Kabhi Dil Se" is romantic duet sung by Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik. This is an ordinary duet. Lyrics by Nida Fazli are ordinary.

"Woh Jo Jaane-e-Jaan" is a beautiful romantic song sung brilliantly by evergreen Hariharan. This time Hariharan has come up with a real gem. Dilip Sen- Sameer Sen music is pleasant and hummable. Nida Fazli's lyrics are romantically melodious.

The title song of the film "Who Tera Naam Tha" reappears in the album in the sad version. Roop Kumar impresses with his vocal skills.

The album concludes with "Youn To Mohabbat", a melodious romantic duet sung by Alka Yagnik and Udit Narayan. Sumeet Chopra has composed the music of the song.

Needless to say, this is a well-composed album, which is enriched with the vocal talents of Roop Kumar Rathod, Hariharan, Alka Yagnik, Udit Narayan and Reshma.
