Taxi No. 9211 - Music Review

Taxi no. 9211, has an unusual casting of John Abraham and Nana Patekar, its produced by Ramesh Sippy and directed by Milan Luthria. It also stars Sameera Reddy and Sonali Kulkarni. Its musical score is composed by Vishal-Shekhar duo, while the song writing is done by Shekhar and Dev Kohli.

‘Living in the city version’- Boombai Nagariya, begins with some dialogues, some serious and some funny by Nana Patekar and John Abraham. The song is about life in aamchi Mumbai; it uses the very typical mumbaiyya language of the common people. Bappi lahiri lends his vocals for parts pf the song. It is rhythmical and foot taping. This is the normal paced version; there is also the ‘Club Version’ which has faster beats and a much livelier pace.

‘Ek Nazar Mein Bhi’ - A romantic song done by K.K. Sunidhi Chauhan sings the female voice, while Vishal has written the song. The song has a very 60’s, 70’s feel to it. It’s a number that makes you want to get up and dance. It’s not a typical romantic number, but is set on a dance floor.

‘Meter Down’- The theme song for Taxi no. 9211. It has Adnan Sami singing about what life in Mumbai is really about. It has influences of jazz and Adnan Sami’s unique style. Again it makes use of the typical Mumbaiyya language. It’s an upbeat track. There’s also the ‘Rock N Roll Mix’ which is done by Guru Sharma which retains the earlier flavour and is foot tapping.

‘Aazmaale Aazmaale’- Dev Kohli pens the lyrics, while the song is sung by Shekhar. The pace gets turned down a notch or two in this love song. The song has a soul searching and philosophical feel to it.

‘Bekhudi’- Shaan’s vocals and Kalyan Barua’s guitar make for a lovely combination. The guitar gives the instrumental feel to the song. It is a calm and touching song that tells of destiny and its importance in ones life. It has youthful feel to it.

‘Udne Do’- Kunal Ganjawala lends his vocals to this number. It’s an inspiring and motivating song that depicts a man’s need to be free, to be able to fly, to seek new heights. The number is rhythmic and situational. Harshdeep also makes brief appearances.

Taxi No. 9211 does not have the usual bollywood masala and item numbers, its score has a more Mumbai centric feel especially with its lyrics, nonetheless it’s peppy and entertaining. Its different style makes it appealing. Check it out.
