Shart - Music Review

Challenging promises and aspirations come from the triumvirates of the next generation. Tusshar Kapoor is back in action in a South Indian Production 'Shart'. 'Shart', which means challenge is made under the banner of Vijaylakshmi Art Movies. 'Shart' is produced and directed by T. Trivikarma Rao and Poori Jagannath. The film has the star cast of upcoming acting talents-Tusshar Kapoor, Gracy Singh and Amrita Arora. Tusshar Kapoor inherits the legacy of superstar father (Jeetendra) and successful sister (Ekta Kapoor), but his career has not escalated to monumental heights. Tusshar's films have not met with the stupendous success though the music has hit the chartbusters.

Whether it is 'Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai', 'Kuch To Hai' or 'Kya Dil Ne Kaha' every film was embellished with melodious music. 'Shart' promises another feather in his cap. Gracy Singh and Amrita Arora are the leading ladies of the film. Gracy Singh has graduated from T.V. serials to silver screen. Her career took a thumping start in Aamir Khan Oscar nominated 'Lagaan' where she played the role of a village belle "Gauri".

Despite a successful debut her career never took up as it was followed by flops and semi hits like 'Arman' and 'Gangajal'. 'Shart' promises a breather for Gracy who gropes for a big bang at the box office. Amrita Arora, the other leading female lead, has a short-lived career with nothing nostalgic. The year 2003 certainly belongs to Anu Malik who has given the finest compositions of the year. In 'Koi Mil Gaya'. 'Chalte Chalte' or the recently released 'L.o.C-Kargil', Anu Malik's work is simply brilliant. In 'Shart' Anu Malik comes with seven compositions, which are mainly dominated by duets. Original soundtracks of the film are on Mayuri audio and Sameer writes the lyrics of the film. Pop patriotism is in air so why not materialize it.

"I am an Indian" is vociferous patriotic song sung by Sonu Nigam. The song starts with the tune of national anthem "Sare Jahan Se Acha" with loads of patriotic feelings. Sonu Nigam's promising voice delivers the goods but this is no match for any of 'L.o.C-Kargil's compositions. Sameer's lyrics are impressive and heart warming.

"Hum Pyar Kar Bethe" is a romantic duet by Sonu Nigam and Alka Yagnik. The song is picturised on Tusshar Kapok and Gracy Singh. This is a sweet romantic song. Sameer's lyrics are impressive.

The highlight of the album is "Dil To Awaara Hai", a melodious duet sung in the colorful voices of Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghoshal. This is indeed one of the finest duets of the year with Sonu blooming into his true colors. Shreya Ghoshal, the find of the year, impresses with her magical touch. Sameer's lyrics are stirring.

"Dil Tera Badmash" is a fast paced hip-hop song much to the delight of young generation. Tusshar earlier hit "Nikamma Kiya" from "Kya Dil Ne Kaha" was mind blowing and hit the chartbusters with a bang but this song disappoints. This song might find a place in D.J's collection but this is not one of the best pop compositions. Sonu Nigam and Purnima's voices are impressive, but lack the pace and spontaneity.

"Dil Mein Mere Toofan Hai" is a fast paced romantic duet sung by Sonu Nigam and Alka Yagnik. This is an ordinary song with nothing new to offer.

"Hansati Hai Rulati Hai" is an emotional melodious composition sung by Abhijeet. The soft romantic lyrics of Sameer are penetrative. Abhijeet proves his mettle with this song.

An impressive musical presentation by Anu Malik with "Dil To Awaara Hai" is the best composition of the album.
