Saawariya - Music Review

Saawariya is another highly anticipated film which releases on Diwali. The film has been directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali who is known as one of the finest directors in bollywood; he has a great sense of beauty, music, filmmaking etc. The film has star kids Sonam Kapoor daughter of Anil Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor son of Rishi and Neetu Kapoor. The music for the film has been done by Monty Sharma and Sanjay Leela Bhansali has accompanied him in the music. The lyrics have been penned by Sameer, Nusrat Badr and Sandeep Nath. Shail Hada, Shaan, Kunal Gajawala, Alka Yagnik, Richa Sharma etc have lent their voices for the album.

‘Saawariya – Shail Hada renders this number and his rendition gives the song a unique quality. The song is fresh, young and innocent. Musical arrangements are fun and peppy and melody and rhythm are exquisite. Even the lyrics are completely endearing. Saawariya is an absolutely charming song that has already become catchy and popular. Saawariya Reprise’ version has Shail singing unplugged with minimalist arrangements and instruments. This too showcases the singer’s brilliant rendition skills.
'Jab Se Tere Naina' – Shaan renders this romantic ballad. The music is melodious and the lyrics have a poetic touch. Musical arrangements and rhythm have a classical appeal. However it not the usual quintessential love song, but has a different intense quality which has its own unique charm.
'Masha-Allah' – A beautiful romantic track rendered by Kunal Ganjawala and Shreya Ghoshal, it has some soul stirring melody with a classical feel and an old world charm. There are lot of alaaps and classical elements to the song, even the lyrics have a classical appeal. Overall a beautiful love song that grows on a person with every hearing.
'Thode Badmash' – Shreya Ghoshal sings this classical number. There is no doubt high quality of music and melody in the song with playful lyrics. But the track is not the catchy popular variety and hence may appeal more to those who appreciate the finer nuances of music. A fairly melodious track nonetheless.
'Yoon Shabnami' – A serene track that is sung by Parthiv Gohil, again it has classical elements and poetic lyrics. Melody and tune is soothing, not a catchy track but definitely has a soothing quality. A song which will appeal only to a niche segment of listeners.
'Daras Bina Nahin Chain' – Richa Sharma, Shail Hada and Parthiv Gohil render this track which is a reflective tack that is high on emotions. A sad song with a classical appeal and poetic lyrics. Melody is soulful and musical arrangements are soothing. The song has a sensitive and appealing quality. A good track that will surely find its place.
'Sawar Gayi' – Shreya Ghoshal sings this number that is a situational track, it has a semi classical appeal but is average.
'Jaan-E-Jaan' – Duet by Kunal Ganjawala and Shreya Ghoshal. It has a 60-70’s kind of music, with a different and unique melody. Lyrics are soft and sweet. However this number too does not have the chartbuster appeal.
Pari – Kunal Ganjawala croons Pari which is a romantic love song that has been sung with passion and intensity which makes it a wonderful song. Sweet, intense, poetic lyrics and good musical arrangements make this a delightful song to hear.
'Chhabeela' – The track has been rendered by Alka Yagnik and has a masala bollywood feel. A mass appealing track that has catchy lyrics. Overall a jhatka-matkas number. Average in appeal.

Saawariya may not be remembered as an album which stays for long in the memory of masses, but one can safely play this album at any time down the line and enjoy the melodious and soothing feel of the album. An album comprising mainly love songs, it is definitely above average. The song Saawariya is however one of the smash hits.
