Saawan- The Love Season stars Salman Khan in a different avatar, it’s his new look that’s generating all the hype for the movie. He is seen sporting long unkempt locks in the movie. The film has been produced-directed by Saawan Kumar and stars Salman Khan, Kapil Jhaveri, Saloni Aswani, Prem Chopra and Johnny Lever. This is a special film for the director as he reunites with Salman, after his last hit film ‘Sanam Bewafa’ with the actor and also the director and his film share a common name ‘Saawan’. The music composers for the film are Aadesh Srivastav, Sajid and Wajid. The singers for the film are Shaan, Sunidhi Chauhan, Sonu Nigam, Kunal Ganjawala, Vasundhara Das, Jaspinder Narula and Shreya Ghoshal. Saawan Kumar is well known for having good musical scores in his film; let’s hope that this film too will have a good album.
‘Punjabi Ankhonwali’- The album begins with this number in the voices of Shaan and Sunidhi Chauhan. This is the only song in the album, which has a few Punjabi lines and is in appreciation of a Punjabi girl’s eyes amongst all other nationalities, but the lyrics seem tacky and unappealing. The musical arrangement is fair, but the song does nothing for the album and sounds outdated. Unfortunately, this mundane song has been placed at the start of the album, which gives a bad impression.
Score: 4/10
‘Tu Mila De’- This is a typical ‘qawalli’ number composed by the duo Sajid-Wajid and sung in the voice of Sonu Nigam. He does complete justice to the number as his voice manages to evoke that feeling of sympathy in the listeners. The song depicts pain, suffering from being apart, and a pleading to reunite the distraught lovers. The song is picturised on Salman and will definitely be a treat for the masses to view their idolized hero. This ‘qawalli’ has the typical elements like tabla and harmonium, there is also a sur taal done towards the end. It’s a fairly nice song.
Score: 7/10
‘Jo Maangi Khuda Se’- This song is sung by Kunal Ganjawala and is a slow, soft and romantic number. The song has a melodious tune and the music is light, sweet and likeable. Lyrics are mediocre. The song has a soft touch but the part when Kunal sings the ‘oooo’, ‘wooooh’ seems to be a bit too much. It’s a love song that makes for decent listening. The song is average.
Score: 5/10
Another rendition of ‘Jo Maangi Khuda Se’ is done by Jaspinder Narula. Though the song is the same one, the sound is different and is interesting enough. Aadesh manages to modulate and draw the best from Jaspinder’s voice.
Score: 5/10
‘Ready For Love’- This is a song in the voice of Vasundhara Das and is a hinglish number. This song sounds like the 80’s disco songs made famous by Mithun Chakraborty. Aadesh has reverted back in time to an earlier style, trying perhaps to revive the feel and mood, which went along with the disco numbers. Unfortunately, he doesn’t manage to do so, as the lyrics seem to be quite childish and inappropriate. The music and beats also don’t manage to create the desired mood. The song is below average and can be given a miss altogether.
Score: 3/10
‘Saawan- The Love Season’- Sunidhi Chauhan and Shaan can be heard crooning in this soulful song about the season of love. Though their voices are good and sound melodious, what ruins the song are the tacky lyrics. The song is a light, romantic song, which is the theme song. The young couple, Kapil and Saloni can be seen swaying to the music in this song. The music and tune is soft and listenable.
Score: 5/10
‘Mere Dil Ko Dil Ki Dhadkan Ko’- The song has music rooted from the Arabian and Mediterranean lands. It is sung by Shreya Ghoshal and is a situational song. The lyrics are mediocre. The music though upbeat just does not seem to create much of an impact. This too is an average number.
Score: 5/10
This Saawan Kumar album is quite a disappointment. Saawan- The love story does not have any memorable songs and the music is just okay. There is hardly any likelihood of any songs topping the music charts. Just another average and passable album.
