Kurbaan - Music Review
Many hype and expectations surround Rensil D’Silva’s ‘Kurbaan’ but the questions that arise is whether Bollywood’s real love couple Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor have been able to spread their magic and whether their chemistry clicked. The good news is that they were not only liked by the cine-goers but the film has been able to woo one and all.
Terrorism and love story both the factor blend into one and this two factors are accomplished finely. The story starts with a love story but soon terrorism takes the main seat. The more flawlessly Rensil developed the love part of Saif and Kareena, the more commendably he has set up the terrorism part.
In the past, many films have been made on terrorism but ‘Kurbaan’ stands tall in every aspect. Its story idea, cinematography, direction all bears an international standard. On looking at the terrorism backdrop, the film has been compared with ‘New York’ and ‘Fanaa’ but ‘Kurbaan’ is altogether different.
Avantika (Kareena Kapoor) is a teacher at a university in Delhi. Earlier she used to reside in New York but later shifted her base to Delhi as her father (Aakash Khurana) suffered a heart attack. During her stay in India, she falls in love with professor Ehsaan Khan (Saif Ali Khan).
When their love was blooming, Avantika received a call from her university in New York. They asked her to come back. When Avantika informed about the call to Eshaan, he agreed to come with Avantika but with one condition that they should get married first. They tied the knot and headed to New York. It was a totally new life. They purchased a house in Indian community and slowly moved on peacefully. As they were settling down, they came in contact with a conservative Muslim neighbor. The Muslim neighbor invited Avantika and Ehsaan for a dinner in their house and it went very well.
The next day morning a woman named Salma (Nauheed Cyrusi) visited Avantika with a pack of sweets. During the conversation, Salma informsed Avantika that she is in serious danger and pleads Avantika to help her out. Soon Avantika finds that she is under serious trap and her life becomes miserable. She fails to trust anybody as all are playing games. She secretly seeks the help of a television reporter Riyaaz (Vivek Oberoi) who tried to bring to the surface the dangerous plot designated by a Muslim fundamentalist (Om Puri).
As the story moves forward, it becomes more engrossing. You won’t able to understand how time passes.
Anurag Kashyap and Niranjan Iyengar's dialogues are catchy, actions are stunning, and cinematography by Hemant Chaturvedi is superb. Salim-Sulaiman's music is magical, it has done the needful.
Speaking about the performances, Saif Ali Khan is exceptional; he has reached the level where commenting and rating about his acting does not hold any importance. He has delivered his best. Same is with his ladylove Katrina Kaif. She ruled throughout basically the emotional part. She was mind-blowing and rated very high. Vivek Oberoi too matches to the steps of Saif and Kareena. Om Puri is as usual incredible and same is Kirron Kher. Kirron is amazing. Dia Mirza, Nauheed Cyrusi and Kulbhushan Kharbanda delivered their best.
Kurbaan is a treat to watch. It is a well executed film, a combination of thrill and romance.
