Holiday - Music Review

In the world of remixed and fast-paced songs, hats off to Ranjit Barot for composing music that’s youthful and serene at the same time. Ranjit Barot, Neelesh Misra and Mehboob come together to create the magical tunes of Holiday.

‘Khwahishon Se’ [6:11] – The music is young, modern and very soothing to the ear. A lot of music pieces in the song are in the Goan style. Everything about the song is original and catchy the first time one hears it. Beats are light, different from the ones that hurt your ears. The song is well written by Neelesh Misra. The lyrics probably go better with the video. Shreya Ghoshal and Kunal Ganjawala’s voices fit with the song well. An honest song that’ll definitely get you humming.

‘Neele Neele’ [5:05] – Another song with a calm feel to it. This track can easily be related to one of the ‘Rahman’ tracks. The music is quite unconventional yet has a good sound and great beats that make the song pleasing to the ears. Lyrics by Neelesh Misra are exceptionally well and I hope the picturization of the song will add to the feel. A soft, melodious number for you to sit back and enjoy.

‘Aashiyaan’ [6:36] – Its beats are the highlights of this song, which make the ordinary music of the song sound extraordinary. Ranjit Barot, himself and Shreya Ghoshal have sung the song with near perfection. This track may take some time to grow on you, but it definitely will. The song is unique as it’s created to be slow but also has a fast-paced feel to it. Great song for your car stereo.

'Tu Hai Bhatakta Jugnu Koyi' [4:49] – Starts out with English lyrics, which are carried out throughout the song. The song proceeds with a soft beat. The lyrics are something to listen up for as they tell a story, most probably related to the movie itself. Another peaceful and relaxing song with a near-the-sea feel to it.

‘Move With My Body’ [4:45] – Shares a big resemblance with ‘Halka Halka Sa Yeh Nasha’ from Chocolate, at least when the song begins if not the whole song. A fast-paced song with English and Hindi words mixed. By this point in the album, the music starts to sound redundant. Nonetheless, it still sounds distinct from the rest of the songs being composed today. Dominique Cerejo sings the song with a lot of passion and seems to be in the feel of the song. A ride of enthusiasm.

‘Raqs Kar Le’ [4:40] – The music and words correlate to be very inspirational. Shaan sings the song wonderfully adding a young feeling to the song. A similar pattern of beats to some other songs can be noticed in the background throughout the song. A very youthful track, another feather in Shaan’s cap.

‘Tauba’ [4:39] – The composition and singing is slow with a sad feel to it. Lyrics are apt to the music as well as the whole mood of the song. Ranjit Barot sings the song beautifully with the same amount of pain that the words bring forth. There aren’t a lot of instruments, which makes the track more soulful and effective. So, if you’re down, sing along and you just might feel better.

‘Sound of the future’ [3:04] – A salsa based number with a lot of catchy beats. The instrumental piece will definitely sound great in the background of scenes. The song is already creating waves in the promos of Holiday.

On the whole, Holiday is an album of exceptional music, outstanding singing and great lyrics. The album is packed with serene music, which makes the songs very expressive. So, just sit back and enjoy the tranquility.
