Gangster - Music Review

Gangster - A Love Story is yet again a love story, which has the underworld as a backdrop. The film has been produced by the Bhatt camp and has their blue-eyed boy, Emraan Hashmi. The director is Anurag Basu and the film stars Emraan Hashmi, Shiney Ahuja and newcomer Kangana Ranaut. The music score for this film has been composed by Pritam and the music is highly anticipated as the score is from the Bhatt camp who always churns out good music. Emraan Hashmi also has a good track of hit music numbers; hence, the music album is keenly awaited. The lyrics for Gangster have been done by Sayeed Quadri, Mayur and Neelesh Misra.

‘Tu Hi Meri Shab Hai’- This song has been sung by K.K and Sayeed Quadri has written the beautiful lyrics. It’s a rhythmic number and has quite a catchy tune. The song is about what the woman in his life means to him. The romantic song picturised on Emraan, who is singing the song for his beloved in a nightclub, seems apt. This one is definitely going to be a winner with the masses as it has that soul-searching melody and great touching lyrics. And for this reason, it has two more versions.
Score: 8/10

‘Euro Mix’ of the same number has been done by Bunty Rajput that picks up the pace and beats. This one is for the clubs and pubs that seem to thrive on songs picturised on Hashmi. Bunty manages to make the song happening and raises the tempo. The ‘Remix Version’ by Jatin Sharma has funky beats added and it’s a track that one can listen and dance to.
Score: 8/10

‘Bheegi Bheegi’- This is a song sung by Bangladeshi singer, James who makes his bollywood debut with this number. It has wonderful lyrics written by Mayur. It has a haunting and melodious tune, which will definitely remain with the listener even much after the song. James’s rendition makes quite an impact and gives the song that extra punch. The lyrics ‘Na Jaane Koyi’ are being aired during the promos of the film and it sounds good, the number definitely has potential and will rise in the coming weeks.
Score: 7/10

‘Lamha Lamha’- A soft, sweet and melodious romantic song in the voice of Abhijeet. The lyrics for this number have been done by Neelesh Misra. Pritam’s composing seems to be on the right track, yet again with this one. This is a rhythmic love song, which has soft musical arrangements. There is also a ‘duet version’ along with Sunidhi Chauhan, which is an easygoing, and laidback number that is fairly nice.
Score: 7/10

‘Ya Ali’- This track is sung by yet another bollywood debutant, Zubeen who hails from Assam. This track has a different flavour; it’s a fusion of contemporary and partly traditional. But the techno beats and western musical arrangement gives it a classy feel and makes it an enjoyable song. The lyrics that have been written by Sayeed Quadri are interesting and depicts a young man who will do anything for his love. The number is a situational track, but can catch on along with the others.
Score: 6/10

‘Mujhe Mat Roko’- This is the last song of the album in the voice of Kavita Seth. This is a completely different track in Pritam’s composition. It has a classical feel and touch to it. The touching lyrics are sung in a slow, drawn out manner that emphasizes the nature of the song. The track is probably picturised on Kangana Ranaut; it depicts an appeal to be with her beau and is about her heartbroken state. Though it is a situational number, it has an intensity surrounding it and manages to draw out the mood.
Score: 6/10

This album may not be in the same league as Emraan Hashmi’s earlier peppy, masala tracks. Nonetheless, the music album of Gangster- A Love Story has its own unique charm and is appealing. ‘Tu Hi Meri Shab Hai’ and ‘Bheegi Bheegi’ will definitely feature in the chartbusters. And the other tracks also have a striking quality. This album is definitely worth checking out.
