Corporate - Music Review

‘Page 3’ director Madhur Bhandarkar has made another one of his hard hitting reality based films. After giving the world a glimpse into the lives of the rich and famous with his Page 3, the director now takes a close look at the corporate world. Corporate is the second realistic film which deals with the lives of those who have a key role in this world, the ruthlessness of the three most important things in this world, the misuse of power, politics and paisa (money). The music has been composed by Shamir Tandon who had also done Page 3 music and Sandeep Nath is the lyricist. Noted Singers like Asha Bhosle, Kailash Kher and Vasundhara Das lent their voices to the album.

‘Lamha Lamha Zindagi Hai’- A philosophical song sung by the veteran Asha Bhosle. Unfortunately even though the talented Asha Bhosle is singing, the tune and lyrics of the song are slow and monotonous. It’s a slow song that has beats which are soothing but tends to drag at times. It also sounds similar to the tune of ‘Kitne Ajeeb Rishte Hain Yahan Pe’ from Page 3. The sound of violins in the background is quite distinct. It’s a situational song that depicts life, its happiness and sadness. It is a soul-searching and introspecting kind of number. It may not create a stir on the music charts, but nonetheless is an average listenable one. There are two versions, the ‘Sad Version’ which is really slow and the regular version which is slightly faster.
Score: 5/10

‘O Sikander’- A qawalli rendered by Kailash Kher whose voice is completely suited to the number, alongside Sapna Mukherjee. It’s a nice, peppy song that has the pictursation of an item number with Payal Rohatgi and Kailash Kher in the video. However it is not a raunchy item song, but one that is depicted in a classy manner. It is a mixture of Sufi style with Hindi musical style. The track although situational, is an inspirational one. Kailash’s voice gives the song energy and fierceness which brings out the feel of the song. Various Indian musical instruments like the harmonium is used. The song inspires one to rise when one falls and assures all that everyone has it within them to be a winner. Beats are averagely paced. There’s an ‘International Dance Mix’ where the beats are faster. The song is interspersed with rap-reggae, hip-hop and plenty of western influences. There is also another version ‘Desi Mix’ where Sapna and Sonu Kakkar chant the vocals, however his voice is less impactful than Kher’s. The song is good with inspiring lyrics.
Score: 7/10

‘Yahan Sabko Sab’- This track is the title song in the film with the words ‘It’s a Corporate World’ at various junctures. It is purely a song for the film and is situational. It has more of sayings throughout the song with an extremely juvenile tune. Alisha Chinoy croons the tunes of this song with lines done by Gary Lawyer. The song has many English lines to give it a western feel. The song tells how the corporate world works, the underhand happenings, the trials and tribulations that the people in this corporate world face. It tells how each and every person in this rat race tries to use the other. There is another ‘Easy Mix’ that has an extremely corny line at the beginning like ‘Hello darling, you are fired.’ The rest of the song in this version is merely jazzed up a bit, but yet does not manage to make much of an impact. Considering that this is the title song, it should have had more punch, but this song is a total downpour. Definitely a forgettable song.
Score: 4/10

‘Peele Peele Do Do Ghoont’- The song has foot tapping beats and the music is lively, but the lyrics act as a damper. The song has been rendered by Vasundhara Das, but in spite of the beautiful lady’s lovely voice, the track does not manage to work. She is also accompanied by Sangeet Haldipur. This too is an item number, but does not have much appeal. This one too has a situational aspect to it and basically tells of how one can immerse their love, life, sorrow and joy in drinks. A song about the virtues of drinking, hardly qualifies as an exceptional song.
Score: 4/10

With such high expectations from the film, the expectations for the music album too was high, but it turned out to be a complete disappointment. The album is merely filled with situational songs and may only be listenable when accompanied by the film. Except for one song ‘O Sikander’ none of the other songs leave a lasting impression. The director has concentrated only on the content of the film, however if the director decided to incorporate songs, he should have at least come up with a decent score. A disappointing album that will not have any chartbusters.
