Chingaari - Music Review

A Kalpana Lajmi Film definitely has high expectations, especially with the anticipated performance of Sushmita Sen as a prostitute as well as seasoned actor Mithun Da and newcomer Anuj Sawhney. The controversies surrounding it will definitely hike up its market value. It’s a Vikas Sahni production in which Aadesh Srivastava composes while Sameer writes the lyrics.

‘Dank Mare’ (female) - Its rural flavor is highly dominant. However it has an extremely catchy tune, which will make it popular with all listeners. The beats are good and lively; makes you want to get up and join in the fun. Sunidhi Chauhan gives it a fun, naughty and joyous feel. It’s a situational number, set at a mela (fair), which clearly depicts the happy atmosphere.
‘Dank Mare’ (male) - is sung by Aadesh Srivastava, it continues the merriment, and the lyrics are those that are typically used in rural areas. It’s apt for the portrayal of the song.

‘Kitne Sardi Kitne Garmi’ (male) - is a slow number with a lot of instruments playing in the background. The lyrics are touching and thoughtful. It’s about how seasons pass without one’s lover. It depicts loss, pain and longing. Aadesh Srivastava very aptly depicts the dreary and bleak situation.
‘Kitne Sardi Kitne Garmi’ (female) - has a classical feel to it and is sung by Vijayata Pandit whose rendition is quite good.

‘Dulhan Dulhan’- Sung by Vijayata pandit has a very melodious and soothing tune. It’s not a loud ecstatic over the top dulhan song, but a sweet village song in which there is an inner longing to become a bride. Vijayta Pandit does full justice to the song with her sweet voice.

‘Taandav’- Sunidhi Chauhan sings the female version beginning with the title of the film, ‘Chingaari’. This song is situational and has praises for the goddess ‘Maha Kali’. It gives inspiration to the protagonist to adopt the virtues of the goddess. It is an aggressive number, which has drums banging and chanting of dialogues in a fierce manner. The male version is sung by Aadesh Srivastava with equal intensity and fierceness.

‘Jab Jab Saiyyan’- Himani Kapoor uses a combination akin to a raga as well as a mujra. It’s a slow number that emphasizes pain and remorse. It still maintains the rural flavor; however a lot of the lyrics are in the rural dialect, which makes it a little difficult for the listener to understand the meaning of words.

The music depicts all the situational aspects well; it maintains the rural quality throughout the album. The album will definitely do well in regional areas; its music will also appeal to those looking for a fresh change from Bollywood hype.
