Bhagam Bhag - Music Review

Bhagam Bhag is all set to arrive during the Christmas holidays to cheer up everyone with its ample dose of fun and laughter. It is one more of Priyadarshan’s comic capers with loads of characters, chaos, confusion and as the title suggests lots of running around. Akshay Kumar who has delivered quite a few comic capers will be seen with the king of comedy Paresh Rawal and the surprise package is Govinda who makes a return with this film to bollywood. The music of the film has been composed by Pritam and the lyrics have been penned by Sameer. However though the music may work during the situations in the film, in terms of listening it qualifies as just about average. There are only six original songs and unfortunately six remixes which actually gets a bit too much.

‘Tere Bin’- Kunal Ganjawala and Sunidhi Chauhan croon this sweet and simple love song which has foot tapping beats. The lyrics are endearing, the rhythm is melodious and the musical arrangements are entertaining. The mouth organ, drums and flute are some of the instruments among the varied which are distinct. There are several choruses in English which are breezy and light. Perhaps the song will have many scenic locations. The number is a light romantic feel good song with lots of humming and chiming in the background. Then comes the ‘Tere Bin Remix’ version which begins with a few keyboard beats and then DJ Amit adds a good dash of fast and techno beats giving the song a racier feel. There is a bit of mixing, digitalized beats and skipping which are heard in the song. It is a time pass dance number. Finally the ‘Tere Bin Reprise’ version begins with some beautiful piano chords and this time Shreya Ghoshal joins Kunal in belting out the song and her voice gives it an even softer, more subtle touch. It has a slight melancholic feel which gets one in that deep romantic mood. A good romantic number which helps soothe the nerves.
Score: 7/10

‘Signal’- This number is crooned by Remo Fernandes along with Suzanne and it has Remo’s trademark style all over it where he is heard playing with sounds and syllables. The lyrics are not top class but nonetheless are fun and lively and the entire rhythm beats and musical arrangements are loud and all over the place with lots of drama as it is a stage song with Akshay, Paresh and Govinda, so it seems apt for this comic caper. The beats are peppy and energetic throughout and one gets to hear drum beats and the saxophone. There is the ‘Signal Remix’ version which is slightly pacier and begins with some rap. DJ Amit infuses vocoder effects but on the whole the remix is not that much different but is still fun to listen and chill out to.
Score: 6.5/10

‘Aa Khushi Se Khud Khushi Kar Le’- Sunidhi Chauhan sings this number on a slightly higher pitch and it has Punjabi dhol beats. It is interspersed with English rap/pop but unfortunately the lyrics appear a tad strange. The beats are techno based with the sitar heard in parts. The musical arrangements are highly westernized with high doses of techno, pop and rap. A bit of everything is thrown into this number to make it a dance number. However it is a disappointment and lacks the ability to get the listeners attention.
Score: 5/10

‘Bhagam Bhag’- This fun loving song is sung by Neeraj Shridhar and goes extremely well with the comic essence of the film, it is fun, fast and frothy. The musical arrangements are a mix of everything with the saxophone, dhol beats and flute. The beats are pacy and energetic. There are loads of fun sounds and mimicry noises which make the song full of life and fun filled. Next is the ‘Press Play Mix’ of Bhagam Bhag which has loads of funky techno beats, lots of mixing and foot tapping beats. It has an extremely youthful element to it with highly westernized rhythm. It is a dance club mix. Lastly there is the ‘Ragga Mix’ of Bhagam Bhag by DJ Phukan with sober beats and some cute childlike didgitalised sounds, tempo is foot tapping. A fun time pass time number.
Score: 7/10

‘Afreen’- The song begins with the sound of the electric guitar and is sung by K.K and Sunidhi Chauhan. There are foot tapping beats which have average lyrics. There is an English jingle mixed in the middle with even a blaring orchestra recitation. The tune varies from light to a more serious tune. It is a mixture of various sounds, tunes and different musical arrangements all mixed together which gets a bit too much at times. Then next there is the ‘Afreen Remix’ by E.MU. & Bunty with various techno beats that is a good dance number. Just a fair track.
Score: 6/10

‘Chal Ud Chale’- This number also called the Run Run version is sung by Jojo and Sohail Kaul. It begins with some weird sounds and has fast paced beats which again are techno based. It is interspersed with English lyrics and some rap. It appears to be a zingy track but the repetitive techno, dance beats are too much. Not a very impressive number.

The Bhagam Bhag album may not have many memorable numbers but they may work during the film situations. However there are too many remixes and the beats and musical arrangements tend to sound similar in most of the songs. In an attempt to give a westernized outlook there seems to be a lot of chaotic and jarring sounds. Just a fairly average album.
