Apne - Music Review

Apne is a film that brings together the Deol men, Dharmendra, Sunny and Bobby and hence this is one of the biggest assets of the film. The film also stars Katrina Kaif and Shilpa Shetty. The music of the film has been composed by Himesh Reshammiya and hence his fans will be anxiously awaiting the music of this film. Many of the numbers have the typical Himesh style of composition and singing. Some of the singers who have sung for the album include Himesh, Akruti Kakkar, Sonu Nigam, Shaan, etc. The music album has a strong Punjabi or North Indian flavour be it in lyrics or tunes. The lyrics for the album have been composed by Sameer.

‘Mehfooz’- The album begins with a typical Himseh style song ‘Mehfooz’ crooned by him’. His fans are bound to like this one too as it has his style written all over the tune and rendition. It is the rock pop mix which one hears from Himesh. The beats are fast and peppy. The musical arrangement of the song has nothing different to offer but as one hears the song it is evident that it is a pleasant and nice song. The lyrics are catchy and vibrant. The nasal voice is kept in check though this time round and the rhythm is soulful. A nice enjoyable number. There is a ‘Remix version’ which has some English lyrics coinciding with the song. And the remix too is good.
Score: 8/10

‘Dekhoon Tujhe Toh Pyaar Aaye’- This is another Himesh composition and it begins with a few slow beats and then moves up a bit. It is a sweet lilting love song. The female voice is that of Akriti Kakkar and her rendition sounds equally good. The rhythm and tune is catchy, foot tapping and has a nice flow to it. The lyrics too are pretty good. It’s a lively love song. There is a ‘Remix version’ which has a bit of faster and peppier beats with synchronized sounds and beats in the background. The remix too is fine. It is a feel good song which is catchy.
Score: 8/10

‘Apne’- A slow soft song which is sung by Sonu Nigam. It is a song about family love; memories etc and has slow paced beats. It is the theme song of the film and will probably be heard at several junctures in the film. Musical arrangement and vocals have a Punjabi or North Indian feel to it. Even the lyrics have Punjabi words interspersed and they are average. Co-singers Jaspinder Narula lends her earthy vocals along with Jayesh Gandhi. It is a different kind of song, one which will probably make the elders feel nostalgic. An average song.
Score: 7/10

‘Ankh Vich Chehra Pyaar Da’- This number again has a North Indian kind of tune and rhythm flowing and Himesh, Shaan, Kunal Ganjawala belt out this number. It is again a love song but a more sober and subtle song with slow beats. Singer Amrita is the female voice in the song and she lends equal support to the song despite it being dominated by men. The vocals are also Punjabi oriented. This one too is listenable. It has a ‘Remix Version’ which has slightly faster beats. There is also a bit of rap and hip-hop to make it a bit funkier. Just an average number.
Score: 7/10

‘Bulls Eye’- This completely English number has nothing much to offer and is sung by Shaan and Earl. It has average beats and a number of tunes in the background. There is also a bit of rap and hip-hop to go with the English lyrics. A situational number that does not have much to offer.
Score: 6/10

‘Tere Sang’- It is more of a filler song which is sung by Jaspinder Narula and Sonu Nigam. It has a North Indian earthy, rustic feel in its tune and rhythm. The beats are average. It is more of a folk song with sayings and dhol beats. It is again an average number and situational.
Score: 6/10

The music of Apne album is not good but definitely qualifies an above average effort on Himesh’s part. Although a number of songs retain his style, he tries to add a dominant Punjabi flavour to the other songs. An above average album that has a few pleasant numbers.
