Yuva - Movie Preview - Movie Review

Mani Ratnam's production banner Madras Talkies comes up with its biggest multistarrer “Yuva”. Mani has been a famous name in South India for quite some time and has made some very sensitive and thought-provoking films down south like Nayakan, Agni Nakshatram, Anjali, Dalpati, Roja, Bombay, Iruvar, Alai Payuthey and Kannathil Mutthamithal. Yuva is his second venture in Hindi cinema after Dil Se (1998).

Like his forte, Yuva (signifying youth) too is a thought provoking film about three young men with very different viewpoints towards life.

Character Sketch

Abhishek Bachchan as Lallan
Lallan
Reflects the youth growing up on the wrong side of the law. Believes that his needs are more important than the right and wrongs of life.
He lives for himself and feels that he owes nothing to anybody except himself. He fears no one and listens to none.

Ajay Devgan as Michael
Michael
Reflects the well-educated youth of today. Believes that the educated, especially the student community should take an active part in society and politics and questions oneself before blaming everything else around them for the degeneration of the socio politic fabric. He is a brilliant PhD student and his thoughts go beyond himself. He thinks that an individual can make a difference to the world.

Vivek Oberoi as Arjun
Arjun
Reflects today's cool and yuppie youth. Believes that one should take care of oneself and the world will take care of itself.
He has never had to work hard for anything in life, be it to get through the best college in the country or get the best girls around the city.

Storyline
When the three young men are brought together by an accident on the Second Hoogly Bridge, their lives change irreversibly. Their change, their conflict, and their interactions with each other is the crux of the film. The film examines the lives of these three men and their families and the complex relationships between individuals who are very different, yet so similar.

Among the female leads, the film stars Rani Mukherjee, Esha Deol and Kareena Kapoor paired opposite Abhishek Bachchan, Ajay Devgan and Vivek Oberoi respectively. Sonu Sood, who won critical acclaim for his performance as Shaheed Bhagat Singh, is playing the main negative lead in the film. Ratnam's favorite A.R.Rehman has composed the music of the film while Mehboob has written the lyrics.

Tamil Version
Mani Ratnam has also simultaneously shot the Tamil version of Yuva titled Ayutha Ezhuthu. The Tamil version stars Surya, Madhavan, Siddharth, Meera Jasmine, Trisha Krishnan and Esha Deol. Esha Deol is the only common aspect in the cast of both versions.

Release Date
Yuva will make a worldwide release on May 21
