Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani

Once you are out of the cinema hall after having watched the Ranbir Kapoor- Deepika Padukone starrer Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani(YJHD), you have to ask yourself this question. This romantic flick was one of the most awaited films as it was supposed to bring back nostalgic memories of the Ranbir-Deepika real life chemistry once again. After all that much said about their break up and their alleged new link ups, YJHD happens to be a fresh ‘come-back’!

This film, directed by Ayan Mukerji of ‘Wake up Sid’ fame, revolves around the ups and downs of Kabir (Ranbir Kapoor) alias Bunny’s life as the story sees him grow from a happy-go-lucky young boy to a matured man. Joined by two of his best buddies, Aditi played by Kalki Koechlin and Avi played by Aditya Roy Kapoor, Bunny sets off for a journey that is supposed to change his life forever. Naina played by the gorgeous Deepika Padukone happens to be Bunny’s schoolmate and is a studious medical student who joins them by chance. The vibrancy and ‘pagaplan’ in the air definitely sets the tune of the film right. Years later, the characters meet at Aditi’s marriage and rediscover the changing equations between them that time has destined. So it’s all about friendship, falling in love, separating on different walks of life and of course the grand Bollywood style reunion.

Besides the extremely fluent Ranbir Kapoor who spells charm everywhere and the beautiful and attractive Deepika Padukone, other things to look out for is foot tapping music by Pritam and not to forget the ‘ghagra’ illustrated dancing star Madhuri Dixit; its real fun to see Ranbir matching steps with the diva. Mukerji’s brilliance in choosing the picturesque backdrops for this film adds to the entire mood of the story.

Although the film has been compared with the likes of Bollywood love stories like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Karan Johar’s Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, according to me YJHD has its own charm. Though the storyline has a typical hindi movie love story element in it, still Mukerji has tried to give it enough pace and fluidity. So, if you are a mush ball yourself and you swear by the emotion of love and its assets, go watch YJHD. Irrespective of what everybody might say, for a Ranbir Kapoor fan like me, Yeh Jawaani definitely is Deewani and it rocks!!
