Victory - Movie Review

VictoryThere are many films made in India which are based on cricket and the latest flick that is coming up and is based on the same theme is Harman Baweja starrer Victory. In the game of bat and ball music hardly counts but in Bollywood, its contribution is regarded an important factor in making a film hit or flop. If we look back on the past record, we will find that films like Lagaan, Iqbal, Chak De India, Apne, Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal and Jannat and all other flicks which are cricket based almost possesses a good music. Let’s check what is stored in Victory.

After the debacle of Love Story 2050 and Ugly Aur Pagli, Anu Malik is back again to recover his lost image. Lyricist Syed Gulrez has been roped in to pen the lyrics. The film is equally important for Harman Baweja and Anu Malik as both have seen failure in the past. The film is much in news for bunch of national and international cricketers. There are altogether six songs consisting of both romantic and disco. As it is based on cricket a small amount of cricket centric song is incorporated.

The album opens with 'Money Money' by Anushka Manchanda. It runs on fast track and is purely disco. Here Anu Malik goes back to his old ways of composing stereotype music and the outcome is very stale. In the competition of disco track, Money, Money will find hard to make a mark. The song can be ranked average.

The next song that is coming up will make you aware that the film is based on cricket. It goes as 'Balla Utha Chakka Lagga', Here Daler Mehndi sings along with Sukhwinder Singh. It is a conventional bhangra track mixed up with the drums and whistles. It starts with cricket commentary (Brett Lee getting ready to bowl to Vijay Shekhawat and it's a six!) Lyrics by Syed Gulrez is absolutely up to the mark. It is quite motivating and captivating.

'Mazaa Aa Gaya' is a song sung by hordes of talented singer like Sonu Nigam, Suresh Wadkar, Sudesh Bhosle, Altaaf Raja, Sumitra Iyer and Mahalaxmi Iyer. It is a fun filled number, sounds like cheering for someone for his achievement and success. Everyone is in upbeat mood and taking part in one’s success. The song has all the ingredients to make to a higher level.

KK outshines in 'Aisa Toh Socha Na Tha'. Here Anu Malik delivers his best. The piano piece is more prominent and the song scores really high. The song is quite nice and it is really soothing to the ear. Listening to it we can say that Anu Malik is at his musical best and Syed Gulrez at his lyrical best.

‘We Love Kriket’ by Kailash Kher is cheerful and full of fun. Here gives us the impression about where cricket stands in the heart of the people. The high note of the song is quite captivating and resounding.

'Tu Ne Re' by talented singer Shaan is very catchy and ear-soothing. It is the best track of the album and quite touchy. In this song, Anu Malik has proved that he has the capability to make things out of track and beautiful.

In the nutshell, the music of Victory is not outstanding but only mediocre. It has a mixture of good and bad songs and one would fall in dilemma whether to purchase the CD or just let it go.
