Teesri Aankh - Movie Review

Teesri Aankh, a film directed by Harry Baweja is about the boons and banes of technology. The story portrays how hidden cameras are used for ulterior purposes. The concept though intriguing, has recently been seen in the Kunal Khemu starrer, Kalyug. Also even though the concept is genuine, the style and execution of the movie is below satisfactory.

The film stars Sunny Deol (ACP Arjun Singh), Amisha Patel (Ammu), Neha Dhupia (Sapna), Mukesh Rishi (Sudama Pandey), Mukesh Tiwari (Dinesh), Aarti Chhabria (Aarti), Murli Sharma (Dinesh), Ayub Khan and Aashish Chaudhry (Aashish). Teesri Aankh tells the story of women who are abused time and again, who are filmed without their knowledge, sometimes in a changing room of a shopping mall and sometimes while on their honeymoon in a hotel.

There is a gang who deals in the making of pornographic films, by victimizing unsuspecting and hapless girls, they trap these girls and then blackmail them. Sudama is the sleaze bag who operates this gang, from London. His trusted aides Dinesh and Dinesh work in India conning young innocent girls. They trap Sapna, who is ACP, Arjun Singh’s girlfriend into their net; she tries to escape and is murdered while doing so. A young mute girl Ammu witnesses this murder, she is shocked and frantic and the killers make her their next target. They want to kill her as she is a sole witness to Sapna’s murder. But in the nick of time Ammu’s sister, Aarti and Aashish rescue her from there.

Meanwhile, ACP Arjun Singh is already probing into this dark world of making porn films. He tries to find proof against Sudama Pandey and his gang members. He learns of Ammu being the sole witness and the attempt that was made on her life. He rescues her and together they fight for justice and to put an end to this corrupt practice.

The story is wrought with several inconsistencies, like Sunny managing to find Amisha’s whereabouts so easily. Director Harry Baweja has also taken too many cinematic liberties, especially with Sunny’s over the top action scenes. The twists and turns are fairly predictable and often the storyline shifts focus like the lengthy flashback mode. The climax is highly predictable too.

Harry Baweja has not managed to come up with a rational, well written script; instead he relies on a number of scenes just thrown in together. What emerges is an unsatisfactory product. Cinematography too is passable. The music too is not up to the mark, a number or two are just about listenable, but definitely no chartbusters here. The trick of using Jazzy B does not seem to help much. And also the songs don’t seem to fit into the situations, they are simply added on at places.

Sunny Deol plays the same character that he has always portrayed in all of his films; there is no variety and no freshness in his act. He bellows, delivers more than a few punches, romances the heroine and achieves justice in the end. His action scenes which had him kicking a car which then flew into the air and the one where he stops two speeding bikes with his bare hands are just unbelievable. Amisha too is playing the same old role of a helpless girl who time and again needs to be rescued; she has played the sweet girl next door for far too long. Neha Dhupia is just about average within the confines of her role. Aarti and Aashish do not have much scope in their barely there roles. The villains are the usual, stereotypical type.

The film seems like a showcase for Sunny’s histrionic strengths and the action scenes ultimately take precedence over the story and plot. Teesri Aankh is a total disappointment and can definitely be missed.
